I have experience in issues of domestic violence, relationship problems, substance abuse, disabilities, adjustment disorders as well as anxiety and depression.
Seeing a therapist does not mean that you are mentally ill. At some time or another, every one experiences life’s difficulties, often resulting in feelings of anxiety, confusion, guilt and even hopelessness. Frequently, Friends and family cannot provide the needed support or the confidentiality found in a therapeutic setting.

Mental Health is often times dismissed or not given the priority it should have due to stigma, or the perception that maybe it will just go away or get better on its own. The reality is Mental Health should be a priority as it can affect your everyday mood, cognitive function, relationships and overall health. My passion and dedication to helping others was my drive in obtaining my clinical license. Throughout the years I have gained vast experience of direct face-to-face Individual and couples counseling with a wide range of populations.

Are you looking for better ways to connect to others and yourself? I work with clients of all ages to explore ways to deepen their understanding of themselves and what they need. I support clients in determining what it is that they want by providing a safe and secure environment where they can process difficult and uncomfortable emotions. Clients are able to make peace with the past, learn to embrace and live in the present, and define what it is they want their future to look like. I take a neurodiversity affirming, compassionate and open-minded approach to collaborating with my clients to define their own goals.

Whatever comes up during our sessions, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have been a witness to it, and I can tell you it is healing. The important element in my sessions is that we have trust and a connection to work together. That is why I offer no-charge consultations, so we can establish this when we first speak. Following both modern therapeutic methods as well as more global and Indigenous modalities, I guide others to un-cover what they come to know. During our sessions, as we discover more about you, this information informs me to choose the best approach/method that will guide you while you uncover your truth.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
