Each journey we take is unique in every way, and though we cross paths, our experiences are our own. The journeys we walk may come with unexpected obstacles bringing us difficult challenges. You will be provided with a safe, warm, and welcoming space for you to pick up the pieces where you left them and turn those steps into strides. Your journey is prioritized and the path that you choose to take. We collaborate on building the pieces that you need to continue on your path and to fill the spaces so that you may walk freely wherever you need to be.

Being a helping professional is amazing. But the job has become overwhelming, and you’re exhausted. You can’t turn off your “helper mode.” It’s a struggle to leave work at work. At the end of a long day, you collapse onto the couch with nothing left for your partner or family (let alone yourself). Most evenings you’re lucky if you have the energy to heat up some food and numb out with a bit of Netflix. Wearing the many hats of a caregiver is demanding. Which hat do you wear on your day off? Face it: you’re heading for burnout. You know you’re no good to anyone unless you can take some time for yourself.

Nothing is more interesting than people. Although I love math, physics, engineering, and chemistry, I chose to study psychology because of the challenge and importance of understanding what it means to be human. My Doctorate in clinical psychology was followed by a post-doctoral Master's in clinical psychopharmacology. I have advanced training in evidenced-based therapies for couples, including Emotionally Focused Therapy (Sue Johnson's EFT) and the Gottman method (level 3).

Are you ready for lasting change? Let's work together to create boundless transformation in your life. By uncovering the root cause of the issue, I can help you effectively achieve your goals. During hypnotherapy, I use therapeutic techniques to access the subconscious mind and allow for positive changes to occur. This approach often leads to major breakthroughs in areas where you feel stuck. As your subconscious beliefs shift, you are able to relate differently to your world and respond in a healthier way to external events. Anything the mind affects, hypnotherapy can help.

First things first, I am NOT your typical therapist. I am a trauma expert who utilizes EMDR for trauma processing. I am NOT interested in you sitting on the couch with me for years. I want you to dive right in, do the hard work, heal and get on with living your full potential in life. Instead of putting out fires, I want to get to the root and figure out what’s causing them in the first place. Once we’ve dug deep, we will see what needs to be repaired, what’s not working and explore what you want to see happen in your life. Then we will focus on rebuilding so that you can be free to live without limitations or blocks.

Gestalt Therapists

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behavior, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
