You're unsure when it happened but aren't connecting with your teen anymore. You hardly talk without an argument. They seem like they're struggling but won't open up to you. You miss your goofy, sweet, and thoughtful kid. You want a counselor you can trust, who is on your team, respects your boundaries as a parent, and wants the best for your family. You want to fix your relationship with your kid. You want someone to help you get through to them and come to a mutual understanding. I can help.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Therapist and have been practicing for over 10 years. I am here to help you through the difficult parts of your life, whether you are an adult or a teenager. You might not understand where your feelings are coming from or why they have come to surface now. I can help you explore the core of these feelings and then accompany you on your journey to self-healing and growth. I am eclectic in the types of therapy I use, but I am often drawn to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, to help you reach your goals. I also do telehealth therapy in Florida and Oregon.

Life is full of transitions, and it can be difficult to navigate life changes. Do you feel frustrated, alone, misunderstood, or sad due to family conflict, an unfulfilling romantic relationship, low self esteem, stress, or parenting your children? Relationships can be complicated, and it is disheartening to feel stuck in situations that cause anxiety, sadness, or stress. Tension can build even more if you have a child or teen who is struggling with their behavior or emotions. This can negatively affect school, work, or home life. It takes courage to reach out for professional help.

Are there any deep disappointments lingering within you? Do you feel alone, unlovable or misunderstood? Are you struggling with your child, spouse or any other relationship? Life issues and disappointments are heavy burdens to bear alone. Thoughts and feelings of unworthiness and/or rejection were never meant for you. And, it takes a village to grow a family. These life-matters were meant to be lived with others, disappointments were meant to be shared, and not good enough feelings were meant to be challenged. Would you consider help? Would you let me be that person for you, your child or adolescent in this season?

Our life experiences, stressors, and coping mechanisms can sometimes lead us to make choices that can produce more challenges than benefits. I view the therapeutic relationship as a non-judgmental partnership. It is my goal to collaboratively develop new effective ways to manage your distress, improve your relationships, and gain a better sense of who you are.

As one ages, one experiences the "Winds of Change". Some of us experience these changes in our lives one at a time, and others experience a world wind that may take our breath away. As a therapist that concentrates on Holistic remedies, I find that many of us are not able to handle all of the changes that may occur at one time, which may leave us feeling depressed and/or anxious. However, during this state of "change" is it actually depression and/or anxiety... or is it a result of what has or is occurring in our lives?

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
