Come matter here. I strive to meet each client where they are, reminding them to “come matter here.” I view the therapeutic relationship as a valuable entity where safety, support, and value are cultivated to produce change. One way I create a safe space for my clients is by honoring their presence. Through this, I foster an environment that allows the client to acknowledge their past, accept their present, and imagine their future. Ultimately, I believe clinicians are the experts on change, while our clients are the experts of their own experiences.

I participate in Certification Consultation Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy to provide relationship, family, and conjoint counseling.
Communication can be a struggle for some. If your current way of communicating isn’t working for you or your relationship, and you’re ready to do the work, I can help. I’m passionate about helping others recognize and remove barriers to communication and learn healthier ways of understanding and interacting with others. Let me help with the skills you weren’t taught or with ways you learned that no longer serve you. It is time to rewrite the narrative, to be better for yourself and the people who love you. If you need a little help or little extra effort to get there, contact me and let’s get started. You win and so do they.

If you are looking for help with feeling stressed, unmotivated, sad, anxious or to improve your relationship, then I can help. Supporting people to achieve meaningful lives and have connected relationships, in our culturally diverse society, is my life’s calling. As an immigrant, I have experienced the challenges of adjusting to a new 'everything'. As a breast cancer survivor myself, I understand the challenges of dealing with complicated health issues, loss, depression, and anxiety. A Christian counseling perspective is offered to those clients who may choose such an approach. Services are offered in English and Spanish.

I believe in the impactful nature of relationships—whether with others, ourselves, or between therapists and clients. They can be the cornerstone of our lives, profoundly influencing our well-being. The individuals and couples I work with are often motivated to nurture their relationships by exploring and understanding their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors to gain insight and perspective. I appreciate that every person will come to therapy with different goals and motivations in mind, and I value creating a safe space for you to work towards whatever those might be for you.

Using evidence-based methods, I help clients reach their personal and relationship goals.
Do you feel a disconnect between what you know in your head to be true, but can't seem to feel it deep down in your heart? Do you have the insight, but can't seem to put it into practice? Did you think you were over your past, but you now realize it's still affecting you and all the things that worked before to keep it down aren't working anymore? My clients are ready to start writing their life story instead of just witnessing it and finally get agreement between their head and their heart. They are ready to finally experience healing, peace, empowerment, and connection deep down.

Hi, I'm Lizette (she/her/ella)! Most of my work has been with young adults, teenagers, people of color, and the LGBT community. We can also supplement treatment with EMDR if appropriate.

My ideal clients are middle-aged Hispanic females who are married and have children. They may struggle with disturbed sleep, excessive worry, feeling overwhelmed, lack of motivation, trouble concentrating, and feeling under-appreciated. They are experiencing difficulties "juggling" their roles at home, work, and parenting responsibilities. They have expressed a desire to feel "normal" and "efficient", and to be a "good mother, spouse and employee." The end goal would be a reduction of anxiety and depression symptoms, returning to a normal level of function, practicing self-care, and enhancing time management skills.

We have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples in various settings.
Our focus is to create balance and wellness in people's lives through a harmony between physical and mental health wellness. We want to create a space where our clients of all backgrounds feel safe to be transparent and honest about the experiences they have in order to affect change in their lives. We also want to highlight the experiences of inequity in our society and to those that are disproportionately affected, we are here to empower and support you as you learn to heal from these experiences. We understand that being males in the mental health field is a rarity and encourage more boys/men to prioritize their mental health.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
