If you are feeling stuck in life, what I offer is the opportunity to look at these painful experiences together in order to understand it, process it, feel it. My purpose is to participate in the journey with you, guiding not directing. I encourage people to explore and put words to those events that have felt paralyzing. I believe people can gain the insight to change those behaviors in their life that have been crippling. I offer the opportunity to create a safe environment and to enter this journey with you. We will both observe your feelings and behavior at a pace that is comfortable.

I focus on helping my clients achieve their best self. I believe that despite life's challenges, it is our perception that makes the difference. I am here to equip and empower my clients with the techniques they will need to navigate their struggles, as well as help build them up. One of my mottos is, "It is not what happens to us, but how we react to it."

Through many years of experience and meaningful work with clients, I apply an emphasis on identifying what is holding you back. I work with couples, loss and grief, depression, anxiety/ I also assist college students who are going through radical life transitions such as moving, beginning/ending relationships. You may feel confused, lost, anxious, even at times leaving us feeling alone. Allow me to teach you, new ways, new coping skills do deal with lives challenges.

I truly believe that there are distinct patterns to much of our behavior and our thinking. Some of these patterns may have developed over many years as defense mechanisms or coping skills. Many others are learned from our environments.

Are you feeling, anxious, worried or despondent? Are you experiencing grief or self doubt? Are you looking for assistance in conflict resolution? You don't need to discern everything by yourself. Friends and family may want to help, but they can’t be objective. It is sometimes necessary to reach out to a skilled Licensed professional Counselor, who can provide their objective guidance. I have been successfully providing counseling since 1994, to people like you, who are struggling with some of Life's many challenges. During these difficult times, people are finding it is helpful to seek counseling.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
