My specialty is working with couples in intimate relationships who feel their relationship is in distress. I can help when you're not talking, not communicating, not connecting anymore. I can help if you and your partner are constantly fighting, or if you're living like roommates. I can help if there has been an affair, that has been ended, and you want to find a way to rebuild trust and reconnect. I have a passion for this work and have the specific training and experience required to help you and your partner find connection and understanding again.

I’m the best marriage & family counselor in the world! All right, maybe not THE best, but I’m pretty darned good, and I get great outcomes! I believe in teaching people what’s healthy, and then guide them along the way. I call it Applied Human Growth & Potential™ and here’s why. We have so much research about what healthy and effective people do that it makes absolutely no sense to hang out and spend good money with a referee just trying to solve problems. Learn what is healthy and effective, have support in doing it, and you’re good to go! That’s what I do. I make counseling fun and “simply encouraging.” I help people to relax, breathe and smile with the “serious issues” since it leaves more energy to move beyond them. For premarital counseling, marital enhancement, or for help if you’re on the more challenging side of things, then give me a call. And by the way, I work with individuals too.

I work with people to help them reach their full potential. I can do this with telehealth or in person. My job is to help remove those barriers keeping you from becoming who you really are. That might simply be a change in your life you are having trouble making. Or that may be a mental health or physical issue you have. Because I'm both a psychotherapist AND Chiropractic Physician, I can address the physical components of things that are keeping you from being who you want to be too. Often the physical problems have psychological components and the psychological problems have physical components.

At certain times in our lives, we all need a little help. A nonjudgmental and caring person to listen and walk alongside us through difficult times can be an agent for positive change in our lives. As your counselor, I aim to help you find wellness and peace of mind. Working together, we can discover barriers to your wellness and develop a plan to help you meet your goals. My approaches are cognitive-behavioral, Gottman couples counseling, career counseling, and solution-focused counseling. Whether your struggles involve depression, anxiety, relationships, grief, career, or something else, I believe there is always hope.

Whether it's your first time exploring therapy or you're resuming your self-growth, an active effort to change your life is commendable! My role in your journey consists of psychoeducation, supportive and reliable encouragement, and to extend an invitation to challenge old ways of thinking. I believe every individual has innate wisdom and valued assets that will be essential in achieving treatment goals. Through the years I have worked with a myriad of individuals seeking a change in their life. I have learned that people are much more than the problems they are faced with.

We use to have hard times whenever faced by difficulties that challenge our ego. Most of the time, we tend to avoid coping with these challenges, or we do deal with them in destructive ways, mainly because of not having learned more assertive functional ways to take care of ourselves, relationships and circumstances in life. My approach is focused on promoting your insight about why you think, feel and react the ways you do, supporting you to take advantage of your own potentials, improve skills and guiding you on taking good care of your core needs and expectations.

Do you struggle with social anxiety and poor self-confidence? I know that overcoming it is possible! Many come to therapy because of childhood trauma and how it has manifested in their adult lives. Often this manifests in feelings of poor self-confidence, self-worth, and social anxiety. At its root, the fundamental belief of those who have social anxiety is the belief, “I am not enough.” Clients get into the habit of comparing themselves to others and it makes them feel inadequate and insecure. Over time clients begin to avoid situations that elicit their anxiety, particularly social situations.

Does the thought of rejection hamper your ability to connect with others? Ever feel like a black sheep? Ever feel like you don’t understand something you should be understanding about life? Getting lost in that stress can really take a toll on you. Having a dedicated person to process that with is a chance to heal some wounds, reflect on life and empower your present day. It would be my honor to help you discover the types of things about yourself, others and the world that will allow you to grow a lush garden of wisdom, freedom and peace from the now rich fertilizer that originally was just a pile of dookie dumped in your lap.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
