I have a person-centered approach to Therapy and have experience in Trauma, Depression/Anxiety, Marriage Counseling, and Christian Counseling. Throughout my career, I have specialized in Children and Families, Couples, and active duty Military. I have 3 biological children of my own, 2 border collies, and have been an active foster parent for over 10 years.

I am a military spouse and mama who enjoys working with people in the "family building" stage, as well as pre-teens, teenagers, adults, and families as they step towards healing, wholeness, and peace.

My name is Cristina Lima and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and a Board Certified in Neurofeedback. I have a PhD in Counseling. Besides my educational background, I have more than 23 years of professional counseling practice. I'm not even counting the several years of informal "counseling" with adults and teenagers that would request a ''moment of my time'' to discuss their personal issues - prior to even graduating from my bachelor's in psychology! Helping others is a passion that I have carried along for years - and keeps growing in me as I grow in my profession.

I am a trauma specialist who has an extensive background working with individuals, couples, and families within the military, veteran, widow, and bereavement populations. I work to help each client become an optimally functioning and progressively maturing individual through identifying the specific presenting problem affecting their lives, helping them evaluate how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors may be impacting the way they relate to themselves and others, and exploring how they can become the best version of themselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

I'm an Air Force Veteran and a military spouse. I have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a Master's Degree in Marriage & Family Therapy. I've been a mental health provider since 2010. I treat a wide range of conditions including depression, anxiety, trauma, chronic stress, binge eating, relationship issues, and more. I believe that in order to improve a person's overall health and wellness, we need to focus on healing the mind and body. I am passionate about learning about and helping others, which was my purpose in pursing the mental health field. Since entering the field, I have worked with individuals of all ages dealing with significant mental and behavioral health concerns. I have focused on educating myself to be a trauma-informed clinical and to focus my areas of expertise for adolescents and adults dealing with issues including depression, anxiety, self-esteem, self-injurious behaviors and interpersonal difficulties. I offer teletherapy services for Florida clients due to being stationed in North Carolina as an Army spouse presently.

I have helped clients with military unique stressors, combat trauma, sexual assault trauma, nightmares, hyper-vigilance, irritability, and anger. Besides treating PTSD, I have also assisted clients with anxiety, depression, family issues, life stress, parenting challenges, and men's issues. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), which is an evidenced based modality for treating PTSD and trauma.

Some seasons in life feel exceptionally heavy and overwhelming. Times of relational and/or internal stress leave us yearning for everyday life to just pause so we can deal with or escape the heavy emotions experienced. Depression and anxiety can leave you feeling lonely, scared and vulnerable. But you're not. I work with clients using a combination of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to practice mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation and distress tolerance, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help challenge those irrational thoughts and replace them with more helpful, constructive ones. We will incorporate some solution-focused and strengths-based therapies as well.

I have worked with individuals and families in a social work capacity since 2008 in public health and child welfare settings. That experience has nurtured a passion for walking alongside of those dealing with challenges related to generational trauma, intimate partner violence, family conflict, attachment and developmental issues, anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders.
