I use mindfulness, cognitive behavioral strategies, emotionally focused therapy, and EMDR to help you overcome these symptoms.
Are you filled with dread thinking about accepting that invitation to meet up with a friend, get groceries, or apply for that job? Do you wake up, stare at the ceiling, and decide to just roll over, because you don't to feel like getting up? Are you having nightmares, zone out, or realize you’re thinking about things you really don’t want to think about? Are you avoiding certain people, places or situations at all cost, just so you don’t have to be reminded of of the past? Are you tired of the pattern of heated arguments that just drive you further away from your partner? Are you missing someone near and dear to you?

You have started to feel overwhelmed, emotional, and on edge. What used to help cope in the past is no longer working. And what you are doing now, isn’t helping. You're at your breaking point, and you know it is because you have a lot of stuff you just haven’t dealt with. You know you cannot continue with things as they are. Something has got to change.

I focus on two areas - relationships and trauma/PTSD - with couples, individuals, and families. Couples often struggle with a lack of emotional and physical intimacy, they've lost respect & trust for each other, have little companionship, poor communication, argue about finances, sex, children, etc. Trauma/PTSD is often an underlying cause of relationship problems. Many struggle with mental health and substance use as a result. They feel stressed, damaged, alone, numb, can't sleep/concentrate, have racing thoughts, mood swings, anger. They 've tried meds, therapy, substance rehab with little success and feel stuck. Is this you?

Hey there! My practice with clients is guided by a belief in the capacity of humans to heal, adapt, and grow from even the most traumatic experiences or longstanding difficulties when provided a space to connect with the core of who they are. Pain is a universal human condition, but no person is the same and I will work with you in each session to create a therapy that is unique to your experiences, identity, and desires for yourself, and that that supports you in long-term, integrated healing in body and mind.

You have just taken those first steps to creating positive change for your mental and emotional health. Fantastic! Getting to understand ourselves is hard enough, learning how to communicate clearly and navigate human relationships is ten times harder. Talk therapy is an effective tool to help us understand what our needs really are, where our negative thoughts come from, and how to express to others what we are feeling and perceiving. If you struggle with trusting your thoughts, feelings, and perceptions, I can help you untangle those webs, and find a place of peace and balance in yourself.

Starting your mental health journey can be overwhelming. Sometimes it is a struggle to know where to begin or find the words to describe how you feel. We can tuck trauma away like a book on a bookshelf waiting to be picked up and read. Trauma is not always associated with war. It can be something that can be seen as seemingly small, like growing up in a lonely household, or it can be seen in surviving a car accident. Wherever you are in your life, whether it is struggling to begin a new career, having a major life event, or maybe it is time to address your social anxiety, I would be honored to extend a helping hand.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
