A clinical understanding of neuroscience and how the brain/limbic system respond to perceived relational threats both conscious and unconscious, helps clients to better understand their survival and attachment responses.
I maintain a small trauma-informed practice. I value kindness, directness, and work in an interactive manner. Aside from "talk therapy," we find entry to your autonomic nervous system that can quickly trigger emotions. These patterns often interrupt your desired relational functioning. My experience includes Private Practice, NIP's, NYC Trauma clinic, 4+ yrs in a psychiatric hospital, the VA's PTSD unit, and working in the business arena. I am a graduate of NIP Trauma program, certified in EMDR & CPT for trauma/anxiety, have training in the fields of ACT, IFS, DBT/CPT and CE body therapies as well as psychoanalytic training.

Through individual or group programs, You will gain new insights and tools to understand and improve the emotional, relational, familial, physical, spiritual, educational, financial areas of Your life that are most meaningful to You.
You put on a brave face for others saying, "I'm fine", You suffer in silence and You hope time will make things better. The only emotions that can hurt You are the ones You don't acknowledge. Unanticipated life events, relationship struggles, grief or things You "just cannot identify" cause You to feel anxious, isolated, angry, frightened, disconnected or unworthy. You are simply human, like the rest of us, wanting to feel peaceful, engaged, inspired, connected, valued and confident. I invite You to make the self-supporting gesture of contacting me so we can collaborate, and You can obtain the support you desire. www.clearlifect.com

Have your tried everything with no lasting results? I can help. In a supportive, confidential, non-judgmental environment, using effective research-based methods, I help couples heal their relationship and create a new, healthy, mutually satisfying, mutually respectful coupleship.

Personally, I've been a couples therapy client myself, the frustration and longing for better is real! The map towards relational health is here, and I can show you the way because I walk it myself.
"We keep arguing over the same things", "We never get along", "Is our relationship worth saving?" Research proven techniques help you get your relationship out of the ditch, while upping the fun and fulfillment factor. "You're a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, do you see individuals?" Yes! My training includes hearing what's shaped you thus far in your life, as what is triggering you now may be linked to an earlier experience. This helps focus on the real issue, not only symptoms. "Does that make therapy a super long process?" Likely not...an initial session with me includes setting goals and forming plans for reaching them.

My name is Lisa Longo. I have worked in the field of mental health and human services for over 20 years. I have a BA in psychology & MA Ed. in Counseling from Seton Hall University. Thus far in my life, I have witnessed & experienced life defining moments. When we experience or witness trauma, death of a loved one, anxiety, depression, a life transition, etc. it’s hard to figure out what to do next. When “life happens” we find ourselves experiencing emotions we may not know how to handle. I have found that these times are when we could benefit from unbiased support!

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
