Making the decision to begin the journey into your own self-care can be overwhelming. I provide a safe, person-centered, and judgement-free environment that welcomes acceptance and healing. Sometimes having a container to "hold space" can be incredibly freeing of the daily challenges we face in life.

As a licensed psychologist, I help clients in individual therapy to gain awareness and understanding of their particular issue. From there options become available and are exercised. Through this continuous process, growth and change occurs. This process is different for each individual and each issue. The goal is to reduce distress and to turn things around so you are managing the issue/mood instead of it managing or arresting you. The types of issues I have expertise in are mood (especially anxiety and depression) disorders, relationship issues, self-esteem, grief/loss, family of origin issues, life changes and personal growth.

I view therapy as a collaborative process, as my clients and I work together to identify approaches to improving their lives. By actively listening, providing support and recommendations, then allowing the client to test out new behaviors, we are producing opportunities for new learning and change to occur. I treat adults, both individuals and couples, whose lives are being negatively impacted by depression, anxiety, relationship issues, health issues, and life stress generally. I believe that successful therapy includes supporting and reinforcing clients' strengths as well as addressing problematic symptoms and behaviors.

As a counselor, my role is to empower you, as the client, by applying methods that work best for your situation. A taylored approach is key, and although I am predominately there to gently guide you through the entire process, I feel it is important for me to bring awareness to resistance and incongruance when I feel it is a benefit. Together we can make progress towards your goals as long as you're willing to work hard both in and out of our sessions.

Are you trying to heal from a traumatic or sudden loss? Maybe the loss from a suicide, a tragic accident, a sudden death of a child, spouse, parent? You might still be in shock or disbelief, the tapes of your last moments are on repeat in your mind, or feel engulfed with sadness or even anger. You want to be able to look at pictures of your loved one and smile rather than have your heart break all over again. You want to be present with your family and friends and begin to feel joy again. You want to still feel a connection to your loved one even if it's different than when he/she was alive. We work together to help you live again.

Feeling stuck and suffering in silence is painful. It feels like all of your energy is jammed inside and you are spinning in circles. You yearn for a release. A better way to unleash anxiety, bad memories and hurtful experiences. They are deep inside you and you don't know how to get them out. Shame, guilt, low self worth, anxiety, depression and hopelessness feels terrible. You know you need deep healing but have no idea how to get there. I can show you a clear path that is within reach. Are you ready to experience fast, powerful and long lasting relief?

The relationship between myself and the client is critical because a good therapeutic relationship is at the heart of successful therapy. I take the time required to get to know my clients, including each element that distinguishes them, and identifies the goals they hope to achieve through our time together. I recognize that each client is unique and know that it is critical to understand the client’s perspective. I look forward to helping new clients of all ages as I strive to enable clients to realize their potential, skills, and self-worth. I am here to help guide and participate in the process as a catalyst for your change.

We all want to feel connected, right? To feel we belong and are seen, understood, valued and accepted for who we are. Often, how we protect ourselves from our own fears and vulnerabilities keeps us from allowing others to really know who we are. We hide our tender hearts and limit our true selves, for fear of being hurt. However, in doing so, we live "small;" our lives and our relationships can become diminished, unsatisfying, and hopeless. Wouldn't you rather live in truth, shining your brightest light?

I created the Mind Spa in the spirit of providing an accepting and encouraging environment where anyone can achieve a higher degree of mental fitness. Mental fitness is a lifestyle that reflects an ability to approach life's rewards and challenges in a balanced, secure manner, while maintaining a generally positive outlook. Here, adults, children, and families acquire skills to create for themselves a general sense of well-being that can be self-implemented long after treatment has ended. For more information, please visit www.mymindspa.net

Taking the first step to seek counseling can be overwhelming, and it also demonstrates tremendous courage. As a counselor, I consider it an honor to support individuals in finding resilience through life’s challenges. I am passionate about providing trauma-informed care, which means a felt sense of safety and a kind and considerate pace are the most important things in the room. I lead with curiosity and compassion and offer a nonjudgmental space where clients can freely explore their inner world. Whatever your story or need, you can expect your treatment to be highly individualized and to honor you as a unique human being.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
