Just imagine: the phone calls you receive from school praise your child. You can bring your child to a restaurant, the beach, a museum, the boat, etc., and the trip doesn't end in a meltdown. You can't remember the last time your child had a tantrum. Your child follows directions consistently, not because of a toy or reward. You're less stressed, more present, and you enjoy parenting.

Let's get to the heart of the problem! I like to work in a clear concise & quickly usable model that can be set into place in a very proactive & practical manner. Not only do we want to solve the problem, but to know how and why it got solved so that we prevent it from coming back to haunt you. I like to be transparent and clear. I teach "tools" that the client can utilize immediately and for long term change and improvement.

Life is full of change and transition. Just when you think you have found some balance or are "surviving", another stressor pops up and you might feel as though you just can't deal with one more thing on your plate. Although many stressful situations are viewed as "positives", such as employment, romantic relationships, blending of families, parenting children and teens, or navigating life after a new baby, they all come with emotions, and the need for intentional communication. Let me offer you my unbiased support and expertise as you move towards your goals.

Many patients come to my practice seeking relief from self-defeating attitudes, behaviors, and patterns. I provide tools to create positive change, relieve suffering, and build relationships. In addition to individual and couples therapy, I run groups which offer a dynamic process to identify and resolve ways of relating which interfere with your goals.

My approach to therapy is integrative and includes the mental, physical, spiritual, energetic and emotional components of healing. I am eclectic and use a variety of counseling techniques and bodywork modalities to match the client's needs and situation. My ideal client is one who has used traditional talk therapy and is 'stuck' in the loop of the mind and wishes to heal, change, grow or resolve and move on with life. Most conditions are improved by my approach, especially with those who are willing. I see couples for relationship counseling using a you/me/us approach. It works!

As a mental health therapist, my goal is to help you uncover your true potential, and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

No two people are alike and as a result, each intervention style and identified objectives will be individualized to your specific needs and presentations. I use the intake sessions to get to know you, and in turn allow you to get to know me. At the beginning, I will ask you about what has brought you in to therapy, what you are hoping to gain from therapy, where you are in your life and what has led to this moment in your life. These questions help lay the foundation to the treatment plan. I use an integrative approach, based on what has founded in research, to work collaboratively with you to create your goals and a plan.

I genuinely love helping people understand themselves and feel privileged to work with people as they cope with life's challenges. I have been in social work for the past 30 years. During that time I have worked with patients during every phase of life, literally having been an adoptions social worker in the hospital when new parents held their baby for the first time and having been a hospice social worker, holding the hand of patients and loved ones during final breaths. I am humbled by the trust that people share, and am motivated to help everyone feel better and thrive. We can all use extra support sometimes.

I see patients dealing with everyday life issues. We all struggle with things like stress, anxiety, time management, aging parents, self-esteem, and depression. These are normal, but need attention so we don't get stuck. I also work with couples experiencing marital or parenting difficulties--the importance of communicating effectively, compromising, problem solving, and parenting with a united front. One important goal of therapy is feeling good about the person you see in the mirror.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
