"Empowered living by positive change." Dr. Coleman is a Clinical Psychologist specializing in health psychology and behavioral medicine centered on wellness, wholeness, mind-body-spirit integration, and lifestyle balance guided by core values and beliefs. Therapy begins with accepting the reality of “What Is,” then healing/growing (recovery) from the past based on acknowledging and making peace with “What Happened,” and then focusing on the future (discovery) grounded in “What’s Possible” and more importantly “What Matters.” This takes courage… our job is to support you through your healing journey: You don’t have to do it alone.

You're always there for those in your life who depend on you; children, partner, friends, co-workers, but you can't find the time to take care of yourself. Sometimes the stressors of life can feel like too much to manage alone. Maybe your past has been too hard to forget. The expectations placed on you are overwhelming or unmanageable. If you are struggling to keep it all going, I offer a safe space in my office for you to sit back, take a deep breath, and refocus. I want you to bring all of your emotional "stuff" to my office and we will sort through it together. Leave it all behind so you can finally make yourself a priority.

Like many of the families we work with, you may be feeling stuck. Perhaps you've read books, skimmed websites, and talked to friends and family in an effort to address your child's emotional or behavioral issues...yet he/she still seems to be struggling. Turning to someone else for help can feel like a big step. After all, as your child's parent, who knows him/her better than you? We agree. Thrive Child Psychology works in partnership with youth and families to get to the root of challenges, establish goals, and use research-based tools to achieve them

I use a bottom-up approach starting with somatic experiencing (how we feel in our bodies) building up to cognitive restructuring (reframing maladaptive thoughts).
There are many misconceptions about what it means to be in therapy. Anyone can benefit from therapy regardless of what walk of life they come from. It does not mean that you are broken, weak or crazy. What it does mean is that you are up for the challenge of confronting harmful beliefs, habits, and communication styles so that you can live a life that is authentically yours. Sitting across from this screen right now takes courage and vulnerability. Our mental health shows itself in all areas of our lives: relationships, perception, management of daily life, sense of self, and our ability connect to our emotions and body.

Some therapeutic techniques I use are EMDR, CBT, Grief Therapy, Mindfulness-Based, and Somatic Therapy.
I am passionate about helping others to achieve their life goals and/or recover from illness, trauma, or grief. If you have experienced a major life event, death/loss of a loved one, traumatic life events, or been diagnosed with a debilitating illness, this can be a very difficult journey to navigate alone. You may be leaning on others for support only to find they don't know how to help. Or perhaps you are too concerned to burden those closest to you with your emotional needs. Seeking professional therapy is an excellent way to get the specialized help you need on your path to recovery.

Welcome to this side of therapy. If you’ve landed on my profile, you’re probably looking for someone who practices a little (or a lot) out of the ordinary when it comes to mental health. Working with me, you will do much more than talking to process life issues! You will also utilize expressive art, somatic movement, & dream work. Because lasting healing comes not just from the mind, but also the body, heart, & spirit. I’m quite versatile in the realms of trauma, grief, sexuality, the unconscious mind, shadow/parts work, feeling your feelings, & spiritual awakenings. If you’re ready to dive deep, I’m ready to guide you through it!

With using somatic EFT/tapping therapy and talk therapy such as ACT and CBT, I help my clients find their calm.
You just finished another day and you feel yourself riddled with anxiety. You've had anxiety in the past, but now it seems unbearable. It's hard to breath and concentrate, especially when you are wondering when the "next ball is going to drop". Family, friends, and colleagues are talking to you, but all you hear are words because you're already many steps ahead of them in thought. You've heard that you just need to be "more present, less anxious". But you don't know how, or even where to begin. It feels as if the weight of the world is on your shoulders. Sometimes you know why you're anxious, other times you have no idea.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
