With over thirty-seven years of experience, I have had opportunity to witness and participate in the ever-advancing understanding of the treatment of chemical dependency. As we have expanded our knowledge of the disease concept of addiction, we have advanced our cognitive behavioral approach of care to include neurological/brain chemistry healing utilizing medication management in conjunction with individual and group therapy. They also have difficulty controlling their thought and emotions. What they learn are techniques that allow them to be aware of their thoughts without being dragged into severe anxiety or depression by their habits of thought. They learn to observe their thoughts and then redirect them to give them a sense of well-being and confidence. It is simple. However, it is not easy. Most people need some coaching. I am totally devoted to helping my clients make those changes.
