I know the thought of sharing your personal details with a stranger can be intimidating, especially for LGBTQ people.
Hello everyone! I opened QueerSpace Counseling because it is my passion to work with the LGBTQ+ community to foster a safe space where clients can share their stories and find practical, easy to use interventions that provide relief. I believe that each of us can take steps for measurable success in our goals. I operate from a trauma-informed approach, heavy in practical skills practice. I work only with adult individuals (I do not offer couple's counseling or work with minors).

As a queer-identifying male therapist, I aim to offer an inviting and warm environment for those that lack representation especially in the climate we're in currently.
I am currently accepting NEW clients! It is not your fault. A lot of times guilt and shame get in the way of real human progress leading us stuck in a paradox of emotions we don't know how to deal with. Sometimes we experience these emotions at a heightened value where you feel out of control. Other times we push them down so severely that we forget what it's like to feel emotional at all. Whatever is troubling you, those emotions are valid and there is a healthy and sustainable way to honor each and every one of them. I believe there is something courageous in knowing when you need help and taking the steps to receive it.

Therapy you've had has largely felt like a bunch of crap and a total waste of time, right? So many clients tell me about their negative experiences with past therapists, who "just listened" and "didn't really show me how to make anything better." Well, I don't play that game (you are paying for services, after all, right?). I want you to feel you've actually gotten useful skills to improve your situation. I often work with clients with a range of problems and concerns, although I specialize in work with the LGBTQ+ community. I have extensive experience in individual therapy, couples therapy and group therapy.

“It’s always best to believe in one’s self, but a little help from others can be a great blessing!” I view each person as the main character in their book of life. Each book contains stories of joy, sadness, exploration, struggle, and most importantly: Hope. My goal to assist in exploring these stories, whether you encounter depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, intersectional struggles, or self-esteem issues. I am especially sensitive to those impacted by LGBTQ issues, religious minorities, activists, uniformed public servants, and those experiencing depression.

I specialize in helping individuals who identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community.
My clients understand that that change takes work and commitment to personal growth. Together, we create a personalized roadmap to achieve goals, so that clients can move forward feeling empowered by the positive changes made in their lives. Sometimes that means examining what's happened in the past that led to current events, and using a strengths-based approach to navigating a path forward. My approach is trauma-informed and inclusive of all genders, sexualities, ages, spiritualities, and ethnicities. I consider myself as a guide on your personal journey and will strive to meet you where you are on your path to whole wellness.

I specialize in LGBTQIA+ issues & trauma, specifically gender identity and transgender issues.
My ideal client may present with a variety of issues, but ultimately they are motivated to seek change and implement strategies discussed in therapy while in-between sessions. They strive to be open and vulnerable in sessions and are looking to be an active and collaborative part of their therapeutic journey. I believe that we are all experts on our own experience, and a client who is willing to provide feedback on what is working and what isn't can assist in helping them tailor the therapy experience to their individual needs.

I have vast experience working with LGBTQ+ adults, teens, and those who love them, as well as those in other non-traditional relationships.
When you or your teen are feeling scared, depressed, angry, or like you just don’t fit in, it can be really challenging. Reaching out for help can be difficult, but it is the first step on the path toward healing. I aim to provide a warm, inviting environment in which you feel comfortable teaching me about the real you. By collaborating with you, I will help you develop the tools and skills you need to solve your problems now, and to solve them as they come in the future.

LGBTQ+ Therapists
Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?
Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.
Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.
How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?
Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.
Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?
While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
