As far as anyone can see your life is perfect. Only you know how much time and effort it takes to keep up appearances. The pursuit of ‘perfect’ has lead to less than perfect results in other important areas of your life and you are starting to question every decision you have made up to this point. Putting your needs last has distanced you from family, friends and the activities you once enjoyed and has made it hard to be the person you want to be. Putting all your energy into work, school and other commitments has left you depleted and unsure how to break the current cycle.

There is little in life more stressful than struggling with (or having a loved one) with health issues.... physical health, mental health or addiction. Having personal experience, my work is first about letting you know you have an ally and there is a place for you to share and get help for yourself. Together we will find the perfect way for you to experience the power you do have, so you can release anxious worry and take positive steps to resolve the issues. You'll begin to realize you can make the decisions and take the actions to break out of feeling the way you do which will benefit you and your loved ones.

I believe the biggest predictor of client success is in an individual’s ability to feel comfortable and safe as they process life’s stressors and to trust the therapist they work with. I take pride in creating a safe, welcoming environment to help people feel like they matter, and enjoy working with people who are seeking a positive change in their lives. I have worked collaboratively with teens and adults of diverse populations who are struggling with navigating life, coping with unexpected life changes, and helping those living with mood and anxiety disorders experience relief.

I've often described myself as a personal trainer for the mind. My approach is uncomplicated but requires hard work by both therapist and client. I use this simple motto: Change your thoughts, change your life. My passion is empowering clients to engage in deep self reflection and challenge the unhealthy choices we make on a daily basis that result in increased stress and prevent us from experiencing joy. I'd be honored to help you take control of your mental health and guide you through the process of making a lasting lifestyle change.

Are you seeking or considering professional help for you or a loved one? Are you having trouble knowing where to start or how to decide on a therapist? In my professional and personal experience, connection and building a genuine relationship is the foundation to successful therapy. However, searching for the right therapist for you or for a loved one can be a confusing and frustrating process. It is difficult to get a sense of someone's personality and energy through an online profile. If you relate with these feelings, I invite you to reach out and have a free, low-stakes phone conversation/consultation.

Life is hard enough all on its own. It's even harder when you're using all your energy to fight off things like anxiety or depression. The space it takes up in your head is unreal. You do a good job of appearing to have it together but inside your head it's LOUD. Whether the problem is excessive worry, or doubt, it's always there, lurking, waiting to sabotage a decent day. It makes you snap at people and you don't even know why. Maybe it shows up as anger, irritability, social isolation- however it happens it's not doing anything good for you. It interferes with life overall. Living like this is exhausting and unnecessary.

You're used to walking on eggshells or having one-sided relationships because you’ve always done what’s expected of you, but never what you truly wanted for yourself. You’re not happy in your relationship and you feel resentful, hurt, and disrespected. You want to put yourself first, but sometimes that makes you feel anxious or guilty. Maybe you’re still together right now, and even though you’re unhappy and your gut is telling you it’s not right, sometimes the idea of staying feels easier than leaving. You want to learn how to find fulfillment and happiness again. You’re ready to work towards building up your confidence.

As a marriage, family, and couples Ph.D. candidate and a graduate of NOVA Southeastern University with an M.S. in Mental Health Counseling, I have provided care with empathy, professionalism, cultural competence, and pragmatism, as healing is a collaborative effort that requires authentic care without judgment. I use various methods to assist individuals instead of relying on a specific treatment methodology. My profession is dedicated to helping clients find solutions to life-changing circumstances, which is why I work on developing personalized treatment plans that integrate into their daily lives.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.
