Being a counselor is a great privilege! I enjoy walking with people through some of the darkest times of their lives as they move forward to reaching their goals. The environment of the client-therapist relationship is unique and powerful. Within this context, growth is contagious. It's amazing to watch people say things like "I finally know and like myself" and feel that they no longer feel "stuck" or full of confusion or regrets. In order to be engaged in this process, I believe in being genuine, caring, and straight-forward.

I use mindfulness, cognitive behavioral strategies, emotionally focused therapy, and EMDR to help you overcome these symptoms.
Are you filled with dread thinking about accepting that invitation to meet up with a friend, get groceries, or apply for that job? Do you wake up, stare at the ceiling, and decide to just roll over, because you don't to feel like getting up? Are you having nightmares, zone out, or realize you’re thinking about things you really don’t want to think about? Are you avoiding certain people, places or situations at all cost, just so you don’t have to be reminded of the past? Are you tired of the pattern of heated arguments that just drive you further away from your partner? Are you missing someone near and dear to you?

I provide virtual counseling to clients in Florida, Colorado, and Indiana. Life can present us with a myriad of events—both joyful and challenging—that can accumulate and lead us to personalize these experiences. It’s not uncommon to find ourselves defining who we are based on what has happened to us rather than on who we choose to become. In my practice, I specialize in empowering women and female identifying individuals to create their own meaning in life. If you’ve ever found yourself grappling with thoughts like "I am not good enough," "I am unlovable," or "I am invisible," know that you are not alone.

*Does it feel impossible to get past the self-criticism and negative tape playing in your head? *Does the saying "you have to love yourself before you can love anyone else" leave you feeling frustrated or confused? *Do you wonder "how can I love myself when I know who I've been and the things I've done"? The bottom line: WE START TO BELIEVE THAT WE ARE NEVER GOOD ENOUGH. This belief impacts the way we see ourselves and the way we see others. Ultimately, it can wreak havoc on our lives and relationships!

Do you ever feel like you’re missing pieces to the puzzle of your life? Is it hard to make sense of who you are, the way you feel, or the actions you take? Are you unsure of what being at peace even means? I specialize in helping people develop an understanding of how their ways of living have been shaped by key moments and environments throughout their lives. This greater understanding opens the door to new opportunities - opportunities to heal, to accept where we've been, and to begin living in new ways that align with our values, our desires, and our core self.

My passion lies in working with women during the 'middle years', as this period brings significant physical, social, and emotional changes that are often overlooked or disregarded (typically between 35-65 years old). I love empowering women to live fully and not settle for the status quo, especially from their healthcare providers during the years on the Menopause rollercoaster! I am honoured to help clients learn how to move through life with healthy boundaries, relationships, and habits that increase longevity & wellbeing at ALL ages!

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
