I utilize a variety of approaches including DBT, CBT, Psychoeducation, Solution Focused Therapy and Strengths Based Therapy to assist clients in managing stress, anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns.
Clients' needs for therapy can vary widely depending on their individual circumstances, challenges and goals. Emotional support, problem-solving, self-exploration and personal growth, coping skills and strategies, healing and trauma recovery, relationship improvement and behavior change are some of the needs clients may wish to address. Every client is unique and their specific needs will be influenced by their own circumstances and experiences. I work collaboratively with each client to identify their individual needs and tailor the therapeutic approach accordingly.

I have extensive experience working with clients who struggle with anxiety and depression.
I am a licensed clinical social worker. Clients have described me as thoughtful, relatable, humorous, open-minded, a good listener, and a creative problem solver. I utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) which is a form of therapy that can be used to treat people with a wide range of mental health struggles. CBT is based on the idea that how we think (cognition), how we feel (emotion), and how we act (behavior) all interact together.

We currently treat those with Anxiety and Panic Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, ADHD, PTSD, OCD and Depression.
From an early age, I’ve known what it’s like to face adversity. I beat childhood cancer twice and in recent years dealt with a brain tumor. As a survivor of many serious health diagnoses, I’ve made it my life’s work to help others overcome their own challenges. I began my career serving clients through nonprofit work, specializing in treating severe and persistent mental illness including Depression, Anxiety and Bipolar Disorder as well as substance abuse. These continue to be my areas of expertise.

One of the most challenging issues is learning to identify, manage and eventually control anxiety. It wastes your physical and psychic energy and disrupts your daily life, including your sleep. Another is properly diagnosing clinical depression and creating a realistic treatment plan of action. Our daily stressors fuel some of the above problems and other personal challenges that impact not only our mental health but our physical health. Working together and supporting your strengths, wisdom and ideas we will return and recapture the well-being and inner peace all of us strive for.

I've worked with clients coping with depression, grief, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, low self-confidence, marital, relationship, and familial conflict.
My approach to counseling is mainly from a person-centered, non-authoritative style that allows clients to process, discover, and find their own solutions. By fostering a non-judgmental space; clients are met where they are and viewed as the experts in their lives. Through various evidence based techniques of counseling, clients are empowered to challenge internal thinking processes and motivated to create positive change. As clients discover how to utilize their inner strengths to bring about these transformations, autonomy increases, and independence is fortified.

As a mental health counselor, I specialize in working with anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress to name a few.
My clients come to me looking for a safe space. A place where they can feel judgement-free support, learn coping skills to manage everyday life, and where they can reach their goals or full potential. Whether its managing fluctuating stress levels, mood changes, or struggling to connect with your community. The clients I work with come from all walks of life searching to gain control of their mental health and often leave sessions feeling lighter. As we work to process the deep emotional wounds you deal with, it is common to also develop a better routine of self-care and preservation.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
