I strive to provide collaborative, you-centered care, and I have particular interests in identity formation, depression, trauma, anxiety, and ADHD.
Are you motivated to understand yourself better, grow in perspective and insight about your world and circumstances, and translate this learning into meaningful action? If so, we may be a good match! I believe truly effective therapy happens when we are ready to look deeply and critically at our current situation, ready to really try to make sustainable, practical changes, and able to be humble and self-compassionate in our attempts to flourish. You do not have to know exactly what you want or need, or have all the answers, but being willing to find those together is the key to meaningful therapy.

I can help you to improve your focus, manage your anxiety, and build your self esteem.
You have so much to do, but you find yourself stuck on the couch. You are ambitious and driven. Some days you’re on top of the world, and others you feel like an imposter. You feel the pressure to keep it together, balancing your job, relationships, and life... and you are tired. You find yourself second guessing yourself, procrastinating, and struggling with perfectionism. Your anxiety has anxiety. You get in your own head and escape through mindless eating, drinking too much, doom scrolling, and sleepless nights. You have so many goals, but a fog of self-doubt and fear of failure makes it hard to get going.

I help people heal their relationship with themselves, which I find to be a core issue causing symptoms of anxiety, depression, relationship distress (conflict/infidelity), life dissatisfaction, and more. Most, if not all of us, have had life experiences that have caused us to internalize negative beliefs about ourselves, create protective mechanisms, and develop strategies to manipulate our environments to feel safer, more secure in the world. All of this distances us from our true selves and leads to inauthentic be-ing in the world. Without authenticity, it is difficult to feel truly safe, satisfied and have healthy relationships.

As a school counselor for 20+ years, I know the challenges of childhood/adolescence. Children are survivors of grief and trauma. They experience family changes and friendship worries. They may learn or socialize differently. Children sometimes feel anxious or depressed and their emotions may significantly impact behaviors. Often these challenges interfere with children's school success and stability at home. Through intentional care and child friendly therapeutic strategies, my goal is to help children thrive through it all. Utilizing play, art, games, and bibliotherapy, children can learn to feel safe sharing their thoughts, understanding their emotions and regulating their behaviors.

Do you struggle with depression, anxiety and/or stress in your life? I enjoy helping clients explore their life story and establish connections from their past with their current behavioral patterns. As we go through life, we often receive messages that having certain emotions are a bad thing. When we experience hurt, rejection and/or abandonment, we often become overly focused on finding ways to prevent ourselves from experiencing pain. This often comes at a cost which can then compound the pain we are feeling. Additionally, many of my clients struggle with control and/or perfectionist thinking.

I have worked extensively with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, ADHD, life transitions, and grief.
Congratulations on taking the first courageous step towards improving things in your life. I have been providing psychotherapy services to people for over three decades as a Licensed Psychologist. In that time, I have learned that each person is unique; with their own combination of strengths, struggles and histories. We start with getting to know each other and then focus on what you want to change/improve. We work together to set goals and then to achieve those goals. I view this process as a collaborative process.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
