I have faith in the idea that people can, and do change. In my experience, change is not always a linear process. Often, when trying to change a situation or behavior, people fall short or stumble. Being able to truly evaluate an individual's strengths and building upon those, allows for the needed empowerment to overcome our barriers. I am passionate about helping individuals to overcome various behavioral health concerns. Whether you are facing addiction, anxiety, anger issues, grief, stress, depression or trauma, I use a strengths based approach, coupled with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to build upon your inherit resiliency to affect change.

I often notice that couples forget that together, they can create a life that they both truly love. My job is to remind you of that and help create a roadmap of how to get there. So often, we settle into a place of disconnection, resentment, frustration, or disdain. Maybe trust has been broken, or you feel more like strangers than best friends. The relationship between partners can add the most incredible richness, excitement and beauty to our worlds, but relationships are always changing and growing- either growing apart or growing together. In couples therapy we'll explore how to get back to growing hand in hand.

Achieving goals becomes easier when they’re meaningful and connected to a reason and purpose — your “why.” When you connect your goal to a “why” a few things happen: You become hyper-focused on the goal by eliminating distractions or other tasks that are not in alignment with your desired outcome. Your vision and ideas become easier to outline, understand, and communicate because you’re intentionally focusing on the reason you want to do something and how it will impact you. It becomes easier to decide what you should and should not be doing because your priorities are connected to a purpose.

At any time, you can rethink your life and reinvent yourself. In a fast paced modern world, we are finding that more and more people are experiencing challenges such as depression and anxiety. Many of them choose to self medicate through habits that can develop an addiction. Many more choose to relay on prescribed medications only. However, studies have shown that the greatest chances for success are achieved by combining medication and therapy.

Do you feel like you’re not good enough? Do you question who you even are? Maybe past hurts keep you held back. Don’t know where to start or who you could even be outside of the trauma or hardships you’ve faced? These can be scary questions to ask yourself and scary memories to discuss. Good news is you’re not alone. I believe the only way out is through. I have experience working with many in this exact situation and have been on my own journey of self-discovery. Our thoughts shape our reality and with some effort and guidance it is possible to change our thought process and turn our life in the direction we want to go.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
