My philosophy is practical and straightforward with an emphasis on personal responsibility. My approach is caring and supportive, but firm and result oriented. I will give you the tools to change your world. Here and now therapy focuses on the issues at hand, their investigation, understanding and resolution. It is, at times, necessary to go back in history and life experience in order to understand current thoughts, attitudes and behaviors. The goal however is always to find practical solutions and promote change that leads to a fuller and happier life.

While people tend to not give themselves as much credit for how they manage life stressors, it is important to recognize that support is helpful in effectively overcoming challenges. Therapy serves as a tool to address these issues without feeling alone and judged. Learning ways to cope and process whatever life throws our way can lead to a reduction in distress and increased feelings of empowerment, setting us up for improvements in mood and relationship quality.

I help people during difficult periods of life whether it's caused by relationships with loved ones, illness, loss and grief, lifestyle changes caused by transitioning and being able to get to the reasons and ways to manage health issues and other issues that might affect your mental health well being. I utilize a cognitive behavioral approach along with eclectic techniques that would apply to each person in a unique way.

My Ideal client is someone who is fully interested in learning about why and how they have come to think the way they think. Someone who is open to looking at life and the things they have engaged in their external experiences with a new perspective to better understand themselves and why they think and behave they the way they do. If a person is able to understand where they came from, who their influences were, and how they came to be, then and only then can they fully understand their future and how to control and manage themselves accordingly.

Life can often get difficult and certain events may derail you off your path of emotional and mental well-being. If you have accepted the need to make a change, you may want to consider reaching out to an objective professional for empowerment and strength to get you back on track.

My goal is for every student to feel their personal best. I want my clients to realize their abilities and attain everything they want to achieve. I empower your student, by helping him or her realize strengths and provide skills to overcome or compensate for challenges. We ALL have some attention deficit, anxiety, depression, learning, and autism spectrum disorder characteristics that interfere at times. Private psychological testing helps us know when these behaviors or feelings are beyond what is age expected and how it may hinder success. Individual therapy helps us learn to minimize the negatives, feel confident and be happy.

It has been my pleasure to gain over 100,000 hours of clinical experience in helping individuals, couples, marriages, adolescents and children, in the field of psychotherapy. PLEASE, don't use a "rookie" to help you with these delicate issues. I am an excellent teacher and formerly taught as an adjunct professor of psychology at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Please contact me and we can discuss your needs and how I might best meet them. I primarily work with adolescents, children, singles, marriages and families. I am able to evaluate your situation and provide you with the skills to resolve your issues.

Intervention Therapists

How does an intervention work?

An intervention is a planned, structured meeting in which a person’s family or friends voice concerns about the person’s behavior and its consequences; the goal is for the person to accept treatment. In this meeting, the person’s loved ones (often with the guidance of a trained interventionist) share how the person’s behavior has harmed them and the consequences if the person refuses treatment. They collectively ask the person to accept a proposed treatment plan.

How effective are interventions?

There isn’t extensive research on the efficacy of interventions, in part because success is difficult to measure. Individuals often enter addiction treatment after an intervention, for example, but treatment itself may not work, especially if the person only begins due to external pressure from others rather than due to internal motivation to change. However, if all other attempts at helping someone have failed, an intervention may be worth exploring.

What are the limitations of interventions?

While a friend or family member’s intentions are in the right place in wanting to help a loved one through an intervention, there are significant limitations to the approach. The surprising nature of the event can make the person feel ambushed or judged. They may feel embarrassed or ashamed as a result, and relationships may be strained or broken. This can make it difficult for the individual to be receptive to the concerns of their loved ones and the interventionist.

Are there alternatives to interventions?

Rather than confronting a loved one through an intervention, an effective and less pressured approach is to create space for a caring, open, one-on-one conversation. This works best if the loved one asks open-ended questions, listens attentively to the answers, and frames their observations and statements with concern rather than judgment. More than one conversation may be needed, but change can take root over time.
