I view therapy as a collaborative process, as my clients and I work together to identify approaches to improving their lives. By actively listening, providing support and recommendations, then allowing the client to test out new behaviors, we are producing opportunities for new learning and change to occur. I treat adults, both individuals and couples, whose lives are being negatively impacted by depression, anxiety, relationship issues, health issues, and life stress generally. I believe that successful therapy includes supporting and reinforcing clients' strengths as well as addressing problematic symptoms and behaviors.

Do you find yourself anxious and hurt in relationships, no matter what you do? You care about others deeply, but still find your relationships feeling conflictual and confusing, leaving you feeling disconnected, upset, and, most of all, wondering why these patterns keep happening. Relationships are complex, and disconnection can leave us feeling empty, anxious, panicked, alone. But you’re READY to make a change. You’re ready to start making sense of patterns. You’re ready to process and heal your own emotions. Most of all, you’re ready to get to the ROOT of your problems so you can actually feel better. I want to help you get there.

Hi there, my name is Alex and I fit well with those who would like to explore their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions taking a whole-person approach. With a focus on the mind-body connection, feelings of pain, isolation, loneliness, anger, hurt, despair, fear, sadness, anxiety, and more will be explored in the safety of our therapeutic relationship. If you are feeling alone, stuck, or unsure in life, expressing yourself may seem scary and I want you to know there is nothing too 'big, scary, or wrong' we cannot face. I work with Millennials and Gen Z.

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a counselor. This desire to help others led me to my undergraduate studies at Indiana University where I received a bachelor’s degree in public health, majoring in Human Development and Family Studies and double minoring in Counseling and Psychology. After my undergraduate studies, I spent almost two years working with adults and youth in an inpatient behavioral health hospital in my hometown of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. While there I worked with doctors and nurses to aid in the treatment of clients struggling with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, personality disorders, bipolar, etc.

We all have negative experiences or feelings, and if we don't deal with them, we can get stuck in the past or worry about the future. Without realizing, we create patterns of behaviors as we engage with our loved ones and keep repeating the same mistakes, over and over again. Understanding these patterns and learning new ways to communicate are the first steps in making positive changes. There are times when we feel down, confused, stressed or lost. During hard times, we also tend to isolate ourselves and become lonely. However, these are the times when we need someone who will listen, understand and accept us without judgment.

I do really well-reaching clients who have anxiety and depression. I also do well with college-aged clients and young mothers, 20/30-year-old women, and I can empathize with mothers/parents very well, as I am married with a 3-year-old son. My ideal client is motivated to participate in the therapeutic process and has some insight into their problem & what they feel they need to do to solve it. They don't expect me to have all the answers and understand that we will partner together to achieve their goals- but that they are the ones who have to be motivated to create change.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
