My ideal client is someone who seeks a collaborative therapy process, one that is dynamic and active. I'm not a quiet and reserved therapist. I get involved, ask questions, offer suggestions and solutions. I want you to work and think and explore how you became distressed and with my assistance, we can identify causes to your conflicts and struggles and how they are perpetuated. Sometimes we identify patterns and irrational perceptions we can challenge and correct. My training is diverse which allows us to find workable solutions to your problems.

We all face trials in life that we may not know how to navigate, or they may feel impossible to get through. Although we may not all face the same challenges, that does not change the impact they have on us. Do you sometimes not understand your emotions? Do you feel like nobody takes the time to understand? As your mental health professional, it is my goal, to provide a safe space and comfortable environment to understand and help you move forward.

Do you feel trapped by your own mind, with intrusive thoughts, constant distractions, or relentless worry? Maybe it’s hard to focus, relax, or find joy in the things you used to love. You might be dealing with obsessive-compulsive behaviors, the whirlwind of ADHD, or the heavy blanket of anxiety. What you really want is peace and clarity, a way to manage your thoughts and emotions without feeling overwhelmed. You long for a fulfilling life where these challenges don’t define you.

My interests and specializations involve assisting clients with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, PTSD, ADHD, Relational problems, crisis management, OCD, etc.
At its root, therapy is about awareness and using new awareness to make healthy changes. As a professional counselor, my desire is to inspire and empower clients to optimally manage their spiritual, mental, and physical health individually and relationally. As a survivor, I support a survivor mentality, acknowledging and honoring negative life experiences and feelings yet consistently seeking solutions rather than existing in problems. I enjoy pursuing innovative therapeutic techniques and proactively employing these techniques to support my clients' ultimate health and wellness. I appreciate the value of counseling but I also work to make counseling affordable and accessible.

I believe everyone needs to be respected and honored in this world. The growing up process has caused people to have and develop coping behaviors and strategies that are harmful to self and others. I view psychotherapy or counseling as a professional relationship between the therapist and client. As a client begins talking about their life, I, the therapist walks with you through your world. I will ask questions to further understand your world. Then ideas will be explored for life enhancement and positive change.

Everyone faces situations that can make life seem overwhelming. I know it can be difficult to make the decision to seek out help. But I also know from experience that the decision to face a problem directly is always a decision of strength. I consider it a privilege to work with individuals, couples, and families who are caught up in the stress of life and who need practical and effective strategies that will help them cope more effectively.

Perhaps you're tired of the same old thing: You walk into a therapist's office, sit down and wonder, "Can this person really help?" In my office, I may be the expert, with a PhD in clinical psychology and almost 20 years of experience, but my expertise is in guiding you toward your own wisdom and your own concept of healing. If you struggle with inauthentic relationships that are disconnected, empty or wanting, know that our work is about connection, authenticity and creating a full rich life. Common struggles I see are anxiety, depression and trauma in adults, kids and couples. Bring your family, your partner, even your pets.

"Life is all about how we handle plan B" (Suzy Toronto) It is difficult to cope with situations, relationships, and our health when things do not go how we had planned. Counseling can help with the difficulty in finding healthy ways to adapt. I work with adults in the areas of depression, anxiety, and bereavement. I enjoy helping clients build coping skills to deal with the stressors and conditions that impact their growth and happiness. My counseling approach is warm and inclusive, sprinkled with some humor, to help people work through distressful periods that we experience in life.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
