I can help you to understand your child's learning issues, emotional challenges, and developmental stages.
Working with children and adolescents in the public schools has provided me with contacts and experience that I can use to help you manage what's best for your child. Learning difficulties are being looked at in new ways, especially in Florida and I can help you make sense of it. In addition, I have spent the last few years researching the effects of Sports Related Concussions on student-athletes and can provide consultation, baseline assessment, and follow-up for your child.

I specialize in comprehensive psychoeducational and psychological evaluations for the assessment of Learning Disabilities, such as Dyslexia; Gifted; Intellectual Disability; Developmental Delay; Autism; Emotional or Behavior Disorders; and other psychological concerns for children and adolescents.
Why is my child having difficulties in school? Why is my child reading below grade level when practice reading at home every night? Why is my toddler not talking yet? What can I do if I feel my child is smart and needs more challenge at school? Why can my child not sit still for more than two minutes or follow direction? If you have found yourself asking these questions about your child, it may be time for you to consider a psychoeducational or psychological evaluation for him/her. A psychoeducational evaluation can help pinpoint why your child may be struggling and assist in determining interventions to help your child succeed.

Families seek my services to receive answers to their questions regarding their child's learning and/or behavior. Typical concerns include learning disabilities (i.e., dyslexia), giftedness, intellectual functioning, ADHD, developmental delays, and Autism. My ideal client is one who is looking for a clinician who can diagnose, consult, and collaborate to provide meaningful recommendations and resources to bridge the gap between their child's school, home, and community. Most importantly, my clients are searching for recommendations that are easily understood by school-based teams and appropriate within the school setting.

My goal is for every student to feel their personal best. I want my clients to realize their abilities and attain everything they want to achieve. I empower your student, by helping him or her realize strengths and provide skills to overcome or compensate for challenges. We ALL have some attention deficit, anxiety, depression, learning, and autism spectrum disorder characteristics that interfere at times. Private psychological testing helps us know when these behaviors or feelings are beyond what is age expected and how it may hinder success. Individual therapy helps us learn to minimize the negatives, feel confident and be happy.

Therapy includes learning specific skills, such as Social Skills, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), emotional regulation techniques (DBT), or specific anxiety management/relaxation techniques.
I have a 100% online practice, and I especially enjoy working with young adult clients who are in transition—into college or adulthood—and are motivated to learn techniques to grow and evolve. I especially love helping teens and young adults w/ High Functioning Autism, ADHD, LD, or Social Anxiety navigate college, work, or life. Making improvements in one's life takes time and energy both inside the virtual therapy room and in daily life, and I believe that learning concrete skills to implement outside of therapy is necessary to make progress. I use a variety of technology to support clients in using skills on the daily!

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?
When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.
When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?
It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.
What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?
Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.
Are there medications for learning disabilities?
Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
