The scope of my practice extends well beyond addiction/recovery, but I have extensive experience in treating clients (and their families) struggling w/substance use and other addictive behaviors.
Having relocated to South Florida from Brooklyn, NY, I am a provisionally licensed clinical social worker now living in Bay Harbor, FL. It is both an honor and pleasure to work with my clients toward achieving a better understanding of the various obstacles which impede optimal functioning. I have dedicated my life to supporting clients on their respective journeys through validating their lived experience, offering clinical perspective and insight, identifying the emotional origins of cognitive/behavioral patterns, prioritizing healing, practicing integration, and discovering healthy paths forward.

My primary goal is to help my clients work through whatever it is they wish to achieve in as long or as short of time as my client feels is needed. I tend to work best with clients who are looking to learn skills and concrete coping strategies. I generally use Cognitive Behavioural therapy in my treatment. Please feel free to each out with any questions and see if I am the right fit for your particular needs.

Do you sometimes feel like you’re living on autopilot, just going through the motions? Are you tired of feeling stuck, anxious, not good enough, or disconnected from yourself and your relationships? You're undecided if it's "bad enough." It seems impossible to balance your needs with daily responsibilities, and you're eager to break free from this cycle. You’re ready to feel like yourself again, enjoy social outings, and to be excited about starting your days. While a more peaceful and fulfilling life may feel out of reach, together we will work to reconnect with your personal values, passions, and what truly brings you joy.

The greek word 'Therepon' means comrade in a common struggle...As a psychotherapist, I believe it is important to acknowledge that the therapeutic process sometimes involves tolerating uncomfortable feelings, recalling complicated (unpleasant) memories, and facing fears. Your courage and commitment to working through issues should lead to meaningful insights needed to free you of distracting symptoms, improving your relationships with others, and enablling you to develop strengths for facing challenges in the future. In the therapeutic search for self actualization the goals are to incorporate balance, order, harmony, simplicity, creativity, and humility into one's life.

Distressing moods, behaviors and relationships are often associated with painful feelings and self criticism. Inner conflicts and feeling undeserving are often outside awareness and yet have a devastating effect on one's quality of life and relationships. Sometimes no matter how hard one tries, the same things happen over and over again causing immense frustration and even despair. Building a vitalized life experience is what is needed and this is done by removing the often perplexing barriers to feeling the inner freedom to choose how you want to love, work and play.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
