I work to support the mother during every experience – pregnancy, loss, labor and delivery, the postpartum period, and beyond.
If pregnancy or birth did not go how you envisioned, if the transition into motherhood feels more overwhelming than you thought it would, if you're caught off guard by aspects of parenting that bring old wounds to the surface...you are not the only one, and you deserve support in working through it. My name is Kate and I'm so glad you found me. I'm a mom of two and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, certified in Perinatal & Maternal Mental Health. I specialize in therapy for prenatal and postpartum support, birth trauma, pregnancy loss, PMADs ( Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders), and general maternal wellness.

I specialize in working with adults and helping women working through postpartum/ pregnancy, miscarriage, loss, infertility, trauma, anxiety and depression by working through past traumas and building new coping skills.
You can feel happy again. You can be creative, connected, courageous and confident. You don’t have to feel anxious, irritated or angry. You don’t have to believe that your not good enough or feel like a burden. We can work together to let go of the thoughts that feel stuck on repeat because while these thoughts are common, it doesn’t have to be this way. If you are ready to prioritize your needs, I am too. I would be honored to help you get to happy.

Life can be overwhelming at times. Getting through the days and coping with the past while trying to build a successful future can be difficult. Trying to improve your marriage, relationships, and family. Feelings of not being understood and dealing with past experiences that continue to create a barrier to the future you want alone can cause anxiety, depression, and more. Having a partner to support you during your journey of mental health can make the difference. A professional partner who cares about your healing and progress in a real way. Allowing you to productively heal from your past while building a successful future.

The stress is overwhelming. Anxiety is at an all time high. Life is unpredictable and you don’t know how to cope with work, the kids, their school, and being quarantined. The desire to run from your house and not return has crossed your mind, but you dig deep and tell yourself today will be better. But it isn’t. The anxiety feels like it is going to explode from your chest. It starts settling into depression and you feel like you are walking in a fog. Unable to make decisions, not able to complete tasks, feeling frustrated and annoyed all the time. You just want life to be back to normal and it feels like there is no end in sight.

I help women get through the gunk that’s been weighing them down so they feel free from the past, empowering them to move forward with strength, compassion, confidence and most of all a sense of peace within. You’re a motivated, insightful, busy woman who can’t seem to feel good even though there are some seriously good things about you and your life. Your to-do list just continues to pile up, you plough through each day because there’s no other choice, people depend on you and it means a lot to you to do well for them.

Church hurt? Family Dysfunction? Relational Tears? I get it, sense of belonging, acceptance, and love are basic human needs and when we have these experiences they may cut to the core of our being and cause us to question many things. We may feel confused, angry, sad, afraid, irritable or experience doubt and isolation.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
