I work with people who are open to making changes to meet life's challenges. I see people experiencing relational trauma, grief, and loss, who are in the midst of life transitions. I prefer to work with adults, including elders, and teenagers. I practice person to person therapy. I believe that each of us has the capacity to heal and that we can be helped to use our inner resources and strengthen the relationships we have with others and with ourselves. I respect and honor all spiritual orientations and religious practice. I have experience with members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

My Philosophy and Approach: I believe that each person is resilient and has the ability to heal, change, and overcome various barriers. My goal in therapy is to offer sensible tools to allow healthy coping and emotional growth while increasing self-esteem and independence. Each individual has a right to self determination in which they are encouraged to determine what is best for them regarding the present, the future, and the goals they set for themselves. I take a holistic approach while also implementing evidence-based neuroscientific and body-based approaches.

Sometimes stress gets stored in the body and no matter how much we try to talk ourselves out of it, we still feel stuck. This kind of stress (often tied up with anxiety) benefits from a biological approach, along with traditional talk therapy. I use EMDR and other non-invasive somatic/biological methods in conjunction with talk therapy (i.e. CBT, ACT) to help people build resilience and feel better. I believe that with some tailoring and practice, everyone can learn to rewire their brains and make great strides in creating healthier, happier lives.

Accepting new clients! The recent loss of a close friend has had a major and lasting impact on my life. It was a reminder that tomorrow is not promised. A blunt reminder that being present and in the moment is all that we truly have. Many of us wrestle with events of the past and fear about tomorrow and in the meanwhile, we forget that we have, in present time, the ability to grab hold of the moment we are in with everything we have and make it truly and wonderfully ours. We get a say in what that moment will be: happy, sad, angry, tormented, funny, quiet, loud. You get control: how wonderful is that?

Hi there, I'm Courtney, and I'm here to provide a safe and supportive environment for young individuals to feel understood & valued. I primarily see clients ages 10-24, and their caregivers. Most individuals I work with have experienced painful life events, thus changing the way they interpret and react to their environment. Trauma & grief can alter the mind to "keep us safe", even using unfavored behaviors or emotions to do it. This can create a cycle in which clients feel "out of control", and because the brain has taken over to protect them, they are. We work together to regain control of the inner systems with healing & empathy.

Maybe you are on the verge of something…big, scary, exhilarating, distressing. Are you looking for some support to take a leap of faith? Has life brought you to a crossroads you are unsure how to navigate? My passion is helping adults facing challenges during life transitions such as employment change, relocation, divorce, empty nest, health. I can work with you to transform challenges into exciting discoveries of self. I like to refer to this as resilience. Resilience is not a trait that people either have or do not have. Anyone can develop and nurture resilience. Resilience is not magic; it is a state of being.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
