My therapy approach is collaborative, client-centered, trauma informed, and prioritizes the therapeutic relationship. Clients are typically motivated; We work together for change withinternal and/or external events that increase anxiety/fears, stress, panic, and interfere with sleep, relationships, goals, and self care. Clients often want to understand what is happening and why. Additionally, we work to explore practical tools and coping strategies. We also examine ways to process losses and integrate these experiences that continue impact their lives.

Being human can be hard. There are many emotions that come from simply existing. It can feel overwhelming to embark on the search/discovery of one’s most authentic self while navigating the world around you. To learn what works & what you’d like to change. To find the language to communicate who you are to yourself & others. It can help to have someone accompany you as you learn/remember who you are or want to become. I can provide a space for all that you carry to be witnessed, validated, & explored. I’d love to join you in your journey towards embracing both the beautiful & painful complexities of being human. I'm here for you!

I vow to always meet you where you are. If you're deep inside of a dark well of despair and pain, at a fork in the road & feeling unsure about where to go, or anything in between, my aim is to sit with you and help you navigate all the feelings- good, bad, and indifferent- that life has to offer. We all come to a point in our lives when talking to friends or family members or anonymous hotlines may not be enough, and we make the decision to start a therapeutic journey. I am here to walk that journey with you, to help you grow, find contentment, achieve wellness, and foster a healthy sense of self.

It takes a lot of courage to look for help, and I’m glad you’re here. You may be feeling alone and like no one understands what you are going through. Perhaps you are feeling scared about coming into therapy because you're not sure where to start. Maybe you are experiencing anxiety, an eating disorder, or problems with your relationships. Perhaps you have had painful experiences in the past that continue to impact you today. Whenever we come to that vulnerable place of asking for help, we want to know we will be understood and heard. That's where I come in.

You have a strained relationship with your partner and don’t know how to move forward. You may have intrusive thoughts that leave you feeling afraid, depressed, or exhausted. This is holding you back from growing more into the person you wish to be. No matter what you may be struggling with, it is difficult to know where to start taking steps towards a path forward - especially to do so alone. I help people by sharing tools to guide you towards discoveries, resolutions, and change towards you living a life of increased authenticity and wellness. You have the capacity for positive change and together we can navigate this path.

Stress and trauma patterns often represent themselves as disruptive, repetitive cycles of thoughts, emotions, and/or relational behaviors that an individual endures, These cycles may look like a thought loop that keeps you awake at night or prevents you from engaging socially. Perhaps it is instead, or also, a rush of overwhelming emotion (sadness, anger) at a social encounter that seems like it should not have carried that much weight. These patterns may also be experienced as repeating dynamics in friendships or partnerships (for example, "I keep dating people who do not seem to see my needs in the relational space").

Waitlist for new clients
My ideal client is tough. Perhaps someone that has never trusted a counselor before? Since I have worked in prisons and jails the last decade, I expect resistance, mistrust, and skepticism. Previously, I worked as a substance use counselor. In that field I learned that there are many pathways and versions towards recovery and change. None of them are wrong. If you are willing to be a little uncomfortable, lets do that together. Life can be messy, cruel, and hilarious. I'll grab a paddle and jump in the boat of uncertainty with you.

You may be unsure what you want from psychotherapy or how it could help. You may know only that you are struggling and wish life could be better. You may want help for a specific issue. Or you may have had therapy before but not seen the changes you want. As President-Elect of the Tampa Bay Psychoanalytic Society, having trained under renowned psychologist Dr. Jonathan Shedler of UCSF and lectured at UC Berkeley on integrating psychedelic experiences, I come with perspective and technique not often found in mainstream counseling. My fine art background also informs how we may see your world anew.

You have always prided yourself on being the strong and supportive friend. You are the one that everyone comes to when they need support, the one that always shows up. But these days, being it all and doing it all has left you feeling drained. You feel resentful and more disconnected from others than ever. You know you cannot keep this up forever, but it feels impossible to find a therapist who truly comprehends that your unique lived experiences are deeply rooted in your various identities. You need a therapist who can understand and appreciate your needs but also your racial and ethnic identity as well.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
