Therapy can be an intimidating process. How often have you pushed your mental health aside because life grew hectic; were told to “practice self-care” but aren’t sure what that entails; or been told to “just get over something” and you’re left feeling lost or overwhelmed? Being a human is challenging! We’re filled with complicated emotions that derive from our lived experiences, environment, family dynamics, personality, and genetics. My goal is to help you sort some of that out to relieve depression, anxiety, and interpersonal conflict.

I have had training in Narrative Therapy as well as Functional Family Therapy; as a DBT-Certified therapist, I help clients balance patterns of acceptance and change, reducing problematic behaviors and establishing new behaviors to manage stressors.
I establish a therapeutic relationship where clients learn to communicate and advocate for themselves in relationships with others. I teach clients skills to increase self-awareness and expand ways of responding to chronic stressors. These skills fall under the following themes: emotional regulation, distress management, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. In my work with clients, I reinforce choices that are connected to clients' value systems in order to stay motivated and working toward their personal goals.

When helping you, I consider your geographical location, race, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, socioeconomic status, gender expression, health status, current relationships, trauma history, and family history to help guide us in making lasting changes.
Are you having difficulty functioning in your relationships? Feeling "anxious" or as if you have to walk on eggshells around those you love out of fear of losing them? Everyday experiences of my clients include pushing aside their needs for others' needs, noticing their "toxic" relationships though being unable to set boundaries, feeling burnt out from overworking or people-pleasing behaviors but being unable to help themselves change. Usually, when clients come to me, it isn't "their first rodeo" when it comes to therapy, and they are tired of re-hashing their past to a therapist who sits and nods their heads.

I combine the modalities of Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family Systems, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy.
Working with a good-fit therapist is the most powerful determinant in getting what you need out of your counseling experience. I work with many people who have invested in therapy for years, sometimes decades, but who haven't experienced significant change, in their relationships, their ways of operating, their stress levels, etc... If you're motivated to gain insight into your stuck places, experiment with new ways of thinking, acting, and relating, and experience sustainable growth, I may be a good-fit therapist for you.

In my practice I have focused in particular on supporting people dealing with anxiety, depression, family relationships, and trauma.
I believe that psychotherapy is most effective when it is strengths-based: identifying and nourishing each individual's inner strengths in order to help them heal and develop new capacities for growth. Using mindfulness and body-aware techniques, as well as gentle mental exploration and traditional psychotherapy, I see my work as guiding individuals to unlock their own innate capacity to heal. I am also certified as a Nature-Informed Therapist and work to integrate the healing properties of the natural world into mental health treatment.

I am a trauma trained therapist who frequently looks through the wound lens in practicing & processing with clients. Sharing practices such as alternate nostril breathing (90’s trained yoga instructor); activating the vagal nerve; tapping/EFT; & visualization with bi-lateral stimulation is a gift I received in order to pay it forward. Are you a parent or family member concerned about a child’s confusion/questioning around sex & gender? Would you like a therapist who welcomes incorporating religious &/or spiritual beliefs into therapeutic work? Do you consider nutrition & lifestyle choices as part of your complete mental health

My 30 years of experience include working with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, PTSD, substance abuse, relationship conflicts, self-esteem issues, family, parenting, and divorce, and workplace/school-related issues.
There are times in life when it is difficult to believe that we will ever reach our dreams, hopes, goals, or have the future for which we had hoped. We may be feeling stuck, lonely, and unable to develop or access our wisdom and strengths. Too often, challenging life situations or decisions made in the past tend to have a lasting effect on our lives. I believe that everyone has the capacity to grow, change and heal our relationships with ourselves, our significant others, and those around us.

Do you find yourself giving love, support, and showing up for others, yet in moments when you need it, no one is there? What about having family and friends to talk too, but still feeling alone and/or misunderstood? Have you ever felt or learned through experience that you need to do everything on your own because you simply can't trust or rely on anyone to show up for you in a way that you need them? Have you ever gave so much of yourself, however, still ended up feeling it isn't enough? You aren't enough? Sound familiar? If so, I am here to tell you that you are not alone.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
