I view therapy as one of the different and many ways we can attend to and take care of ourselves. My approach to therapy begins by getting to know the individual from the start and then building a plan together. I think people are the experts of their stories and the challenges they face and can rarely be understood without considering the environment they are in or have come from. With this knowledge and framework, I aim to get to know people and their strengths while identifying their unique needs and goals. I incorporate approaches from Cognitive Behavioral, Solution-Focused, Mindfulness, and Family Systems.

What happens when your vocation routinely requires you to be there at someone else's worst moment of their life? What happens when you cannot shake the day off when you come home? Who can you reach out to when you give all you can and it never seems to be enough for the people you're trying to help, your boss, or your family when you are home? How did a "career" become your life and the highs and lows seem to define your worth? Healthy processing of traumatic events and their proper placement in your life can help you realign thinking patterns, release negativity, and reclaim joy.

We are trained in several therapeutic approaches and identify as eclectic therapists, learning from many modalities to create a personalized experience that is suited to your individual needs or the needs of your child and family.
Your journey to healing depends on two things: a relationship built on trust and guidance to help you find your purpose. Focusing on both mind and body, Sky's the Limit facilitates whole change by helping you unlock those things from the past that block healing. When you learn to change your mind about who you are and begin to see the truth, healing begins.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience. I enjoy helping individuals uncover and get connected to who they really are. I truly believe that each person is their own best expert in their life. I use Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution Focused, and Narrative techniques to help people get connected to their own values and set themselves on a path to live the fulfilling life that they want to live. I find that we often need to uncover conditioned beliefs that have been instilled by culture and family systems that don't align with our true selves.

Finding our strengths is an intangible but important part of living. We may find strength from relationships, growing opportunities, self awareness and devoting our energy to values we consider more important than ourselves. In entering therapy, the client's relationship with the therapist can be a step in finding that strength. I specialize in adults, either in individual therapy or with the partner. I also have experience in family therapy involving teenagers and young adults. I have experience in anger management, grief, work related stress and problems of isolation.

I am passionate about witnessing the healing and growth within the family system and individuals themselves.
Each of us has a unique story, shaped by diverse experiences and backgrounds. For some of us, our story can involve troubling and even traumatic experiences, such as abuse, neglect, violence, or significant loss. These experiences can leave us with symptoms like anxiety, depression, emotional numbness, or difficulty forming and maintaining relationships. What we need most is a space that is healthy, safe, and non-judgmental to explore and process our story. Understanding how trauma affects the brain and body can help us normalize our experiences and reduce self-blame. This welcomes a foundation for healing.

I have taught undergraduate and graduate students in marriage and family therapy, psychology, education, and social ecology for the last 13 years.
I believe that it is through the relationship with a caring and competent psychotherapist that clients experience emotional recovery and growth. I focus on the "here and now" in helping clients develop strategies to solve problems. Some clients come to therapy because they want to make significant and long-lasting changes in their lives; they want to change patterns of behavior that have not met their needs well in the past. I work to help these clients identify difficulties in how they cope with and solve problems and to develop new coping skills.

I believe that each person has a specific path to travel and that, at the end of the day, what we most desire is to leave a meaningful legacy, sweetly remembered by those we love. My heartfelt goal in counseling is to help you find your purpose and significance in life and essentially discover how your path is influenced by your history, family, and community. I realize that these relationships can be difficult and my personal goal for therapy is to walk beside you in an attempt to maintain a healthy balance of all that life brings.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
