Using an integrative approach that includes cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, art, writing, and more, we can work towards feelings of empowerment and strengthened family dynamics.
Is your family going through a major life change or stressor? Perhaps a parent or child is sick? Maybe there has been a loss, a move, or another big event? As a parent, you want so badly to support your child when they are dealing with changes, but sometimes you just don't know how. You might feel guilty, sad or frustrated that you don't know how to help. Your child may need their own space to process what is going on for them, as well as a safe space where you can work through these adjustments together. Therapy can be that space.

I believe that therapy can benefit anyone. It can be very helpful in many situations. At some point in peoples lives they will experience psychological or emotional distress. Some people will avoid seeking help because they are unsure how therapy will help them. Therapy helps us understand why we act and respond in ways that cause us harm, get us through rough times, and help to strengthen family ties and build healthier relationships.

I find it a privilege to walk alongside someone on their journey of self-discovery and positive change. We all have experienced challenges in life, yet each of us is different and exhibits a unique set of qualities, talents, and strengths. I love working with both children and adults and also offer family therapy. My goal is to focus on a person as a whole. Their experiences, family of origin, current emotions and relationships are only a few factors that make up who a person becomes and how they learn to relate to the world around them.

Asking for therapy is not easy, but it is a sign of strength that I support. My practice is client-centered, based on a systems approach & family-of-origin themes/issues. I focus on helping my clients to find solutions to their emotional challenges and to work through transitions, crises, trauma & adjustments so they can develop & enhance their behavioral health. Let's rediscover your happiness-or redefine it. Evolve stale relationships; generate more meaningful experiences; introduce more peace and unity. Wherever you are struggling, I help you create a new lense through which you will gain insight into your thought patterns and behaviors and ultimately feel better. I earned my Masters degree in both clinical/community and school counseling, and a Masters degree in secondary education. I taught high school for 11 years, incorporating much adolescent, group, and family counseling during that time. I have expanded to counseling individuals and couples of all ages, including families.

I am open to helping in whatever way my client's and their family need.
Life can be overwhelming at times for all of us. I recognize the strength that it can take to identify that and then ask for help. I appreciate the courage and strength it takes to be vulnerable with others, especially someone new. I welcome clients to my office by letting them set the pace for therapy. As a therapist, I am here to support and to guide, not to force the process. So come and have a seat with me and let us figure out what you need together.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
