Family members are affected (sometimes traumatically so) by the addicted individuals' behaviors.
Chances are you or a family member is affected by addiction. It is a heartbreaking disease but there is A WAY OUT! I use a person-centered, individual, holistic approach to addiction treatment and education for individuals and family members. I employ clinically proven strategies to recovery. I successfully treated addicted clients and supported and educated family members for over twenty years. I would be honored to walk with you on your road to a newly found life! I treat men and women 17 years and older. Feel free to call. I'm happy to speak with you.

In addition to being a licensed marriage and family therapist, I have a two-year certification in Gestalt Therapy, an experiential approach that integrates mind and body.
Do you feel stuck in your life or in your relationship(s)? Or are you in a transition that's bogging you down? You don't have to go it alone. Together, we can clarify what isn't working for you and identify areas for change; tap into your strengths and talents; and help you move toward greater joy and deeper connections.

A similar approach is employed to fortify the identities of individuals in couple/marital and family therapy sessions.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who employs a family systems theoretical perspective in doing counseling with adults, adolescents, and children. Depending upon the particular client, I will conduct individual, couple/marital, or family sessions to help individuals gain insight into the dynamics of his or her family of origin. This approach includes an examination of the manner in which these behavior patterns are currently influencing the client's relationships with dating partners, spouses, children, in-laws, friends, co-workers, supervisors, employers, and other significant individuals in the client's life.

Are you feeling stuck, defeated, and struggling to manage your or your child's emotions? It can be hard just to make it through the day. I know life is really hard and we are all facing challenging times. Taking that first step to ask for help can be difficult, you are not alone. I think everyone would be surprised at actually how many of us need and can use a little extra support, whether it be for yourself or your child. You don't have to continue to feel this way.

Currently not accepting ongoing therapy clients but do have limited availability for EMDR intensives if appropriate- Life is filled with moments of great joy, profound sorrow, and everything in between; at times navigating the ups and downs can be challenging. Often people get stuck in familiar patterns that aren't productive. One of the benefits of therapy is having an objective, non-judgmental ally to assist you through the change process. Therapy is interactive and collaborative. As a therapist, my goal is to help my clients recognize and utilize the strengths they already possess to create the change they seek in their lives.

***Evening appointments available*** We all experience times in our lives when we need someone to talk to, someone to listen, someone to help us see things from a different perspective. Whether it’s times of sadness, feeling overwhelmed, or simply finding ourselves at a crossroads, these situations can leave us feeling uncertain about how to move forward successfully in life. For more than fifteen years, I have been helping people to change their lives by increasing their understanding of themselves and the people around them.

Living one's life with courage, insight and vitality is not always easy. Relationships can be difficult, disappointing or elusive. Families and careers can be demanding and exhausting. Transitions arrive and losses mount up. Anxiety, depression, self-doubt and low motivation may arise amidst the stress.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
