Are you ambitious, a top performer or high achiever, but still struggling with low mood or constant anxiety? Do you wish you had a more fulfilling life or better relationships? Do negative events from your past seem to keep you feeling down or hopeless? Or perhaps you feel the past is impacting your self-esteem, impairing your judgment, causing you to doubt your abilities, or keeping you stuck in a place that does not bring happiness. If you’re barely hanging on during a life transition, stressful work situation, family conflict, or other problem, it’s time to get help. Are you ready to transform your life in a positive way?

At East Bay Center for Anxiety Relief, we work with adults, children, teens, couples, and families. We also facilitate periodic groups focused on communication skills, social skills, anxiety, depression, and working women. We strive for mindful, efficient, and effective therapy. Our clinicians are trained in research-based models such as TEAM-CBT and Gottman couples/family models. We work a bit differently than more traditional practices. We don’t cram an hour of therapy into 50 minutes. Instead, we provide full 60-, 75-, or 90-minute sessions.

Through individual, couples, and family therapy, I have helped clients to understand and overcome the challenges of anxiety, depression, trauma, developmental and learning disabilities, parenting, and relationship issues.
Life can be overwhelming and stressful at times. Therapy can provide the support one needs to overcome the challenges we may face. I believe each of us possesses the strength and courage needed to face life’s difficulties and make positive changes for ourselves. With respect and compassion, I would work with you to develop the most effective and empathic approach to achieving your therapeutic goals.

I work with children ranging in age from kindergarten through middle school, as well as parents and caregivers. I can help children who are facing challenges around anxiety, life transitions, losses, self-esteem, and relationships with peers and/or family members. I know that children are most effectively treated when their parents are engaged in the treatment process. The degree to which parents are included depends on each child’s needs. I am also happy to provide parent consultation as the primary intervention if a parent is interested in trying that approach instead of individual child therapy.

When it comes to getting help for yourself or your family, finding a therapist you feel comfortable with is an important first step. I create a supportive and authentic environment where we can focus on your individual goals so you can move forward with your life. I take a practical and eclectic approach to therapy, incorporating family systems theory, evidenced based practices, and mindfulness practices into sessions, and work to help you feel better as quickly as possible.

I use an integrative lens that combines family systems and relational therapy models while incorporating evidence-based interventions.
Are there experiences or challenges in your life that have left you feeling stuck, lost, disconnected, or alone? Are you struggling with your job, relationships, family, or just life in general? Do you need help making sense of the world around you and your place within it? Is it time to begin living your best life? All journeys begin with the first step.

In addition to formal couples therapy training all of our therapists have additional specialties in family therapy, attachment, trauma, addiction and intimacy.
The Couples Enrichment Center is specifically designed for couples. We specialize in adults who were raised in dysfunctional families who want to have healthy adult relationships. We start with The Gottman Method which is the most empirically validated couples therapy used today. The Gottman's found that couples who stayed together all shared similar traits and behaviors; while couples who separated also shared similar traits and behaviors. Thanks to the thousands of the couples who came before, we now have specific interventions that can help you build a long lasting relationship and stay together.

I am trained in EMDR by an EMDRIA-certified Basic Trainer and can use this modality of healing for many issues. Traumas often affect our day-to-day ways of coping and I don't believe that we should have to stay stuck in those ways. Struggling with chronic illness issues and caretaking are under stress? Feeling depression and anxiety around a diagnosis or experiencing anticipatory grief? Are you an individual or couple seeking a (Spanish/English) bilingual therapist to understand and explore cross-cultural coupledom? You may be a new parent who needs help and support as you navigate your new family configuration.

My clinical approach to working with teen and adult clients is to provide a safe as well as non-judgemental place to process difficult emotions and situations that may be hindering a healthy and balanced life. This enables change, positivity, and renewed energy in your life. Some common reasons people seek therapy are; difficulties with peer relationships, depression, life transitions, stress, substance use, self esteem and body image, parenting, academic performance, and family conflict.

Hello, my name is Patricia, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Success in therapy starts with a good therapeutic relationship and building this foundation is what I focus on establishing with my clients. This relationship is what helps you feel safe to reveal your true self and work on the things that led you to seek therapy in the first place. Every person is unique in their own way, and so is their response to challenges, which is why I personalize my therapeutic approach to ensure I am meeting my clients where they are, allowing them to guide their therapeutic journey.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
