Asking for help can be a very difficult thing to do. Finding a therapist with whom you feel secure and comfortable can be equally daunting, especially when you are in the midst of emotional and psychological pain. I am invested in cultivating a safe, supportive, and trusting connection intended to improve your choices and enhance your relationships with yourself and others.

I specialize in working with individual clients seeking recovery from the psychological and relational injuries of narcissistic family systems, middle-age-related changes and mid-life reviews, existential and spiritual crises/inquiry, ecological-based anxiety, shame, complex trauma, grief, general anxiety, and depression.
Currently accepting individuals for telehealth. My approach to therapy is wholehearted and views clients contextually, recognizing people as interconnected with and influenced by everything from biology and belief to society and the natural environment. I use a bio-psycho-social-spiritual lens to understand my clients holistically. Rather than seeking to identify what is wrong, I seek to understand what needs may not be met and collaborate with clients on meeting those needs. This approach sparks inspiration, creativity, and openness and invites into the therapy process a client’s deep and vast wisdom.

I use modalities of Internal Family System, Psychedelic integration therapy, body based mindfulness, and the Enneagram.
It takes courage to embrace vulnerability and reach out for support. That's an invaluable asset, and in our work together, we will draw upon the strengths you already possess to address the stressors that emerge. Whether you're navigating significant life transitions, grappling with anxiety and depression, or belong to the LGBTQIA+ community striving to navigate an all-too-often unwelcoming world, I am here to provide assistance. In therapy, you will acquire resources to ground your active nervous system, reduce reactivity in your relationships, and uncover the profound wisdom of your true nature.

My masters in counseling is from Portland State University and I focused on sexuality, gender, relationship work and family systems.
Many of us have pre-verbal layers that come in as feelings of depression, restlessness and anxiety. Times of birth, death, relationship, and sexuality can usher in a greater understanding of these non-verbal aspects of ourselves. We will use a process of looking at the imagination, loose associations, and dream material to help integrate subconscious depths.

Because I have lived experience caring for family members with mental health concerns and has supported my mother through the ageing process, cognitive decline, and an eventual journey through hospice, I have a unique appreciation for the challenges of caregiving across the life cycle.
I've been a licensed therapist for 35 years and received my Masters of Social Work from California State University, Sacramento but consider myself a true Oregonian, living in the Willamette Valley since 1995.

I specialize in anxiety, depression, substance use concerns, codependent dynamics, family of origin issues, intergenerational conflict, life cycle transitions, family caregiving, and men’s issues.
I believe that all behavior makes sense when we fully appreciate the context in which it occurs. Often we find that our patterns of behavior have their origins in previous life experiences and relationships. As a relationally and systemically trained therapist, my aim is to assist you in better understanding how various factors can affect how you think and feel, and how you respond to challenging situations in your life. My hope is that through our work you feel greater alignment with your values and what is most important to you.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
