I don’t just work with neurodivergent clients, I live a neurodivergent life with my family, too.
Life on the autism spectrum, or living with ADHD, epilepsy, or learning differences can bring all kinds of unknowns. The future can feel scary and lonely, and there’s a lot to figure out. You‘ve got ways to cope, but you want to thrive. On your terms, and in your own way. If someone you love is navigating young adult or adult life on the neurodivergent spectrum, you have questions and uncertainties, too, and support isn’t easy to find. Imagine having someone to talk to who understands the stress and weight of the challenges you face. Imagine having a safe, open, and supportive environment to be yourself and explore a hopeful future.

You're a Resilient Warrior, needing an open space to work through the daily stress from work, academics, sports, family, and peers.
Many days, pressure from others’ expectations can be mentally, physically & emotionally draining. It seems you are never good enough, always pushing toward perfection. Working hard, putting time in day and night, struggling to perform at work, school, home, with sports, family and peers. This can lead to overwhelming amounts of stress, fear, sadness, conflict, and irritability, impacting choices made. You want to feel valued and accepted, and are told to be mentally tough and stay strong. On the inside you are nervous, and fear failure. Outside pressure can be overwhelming, bringing feelings of self doubt, and fear.

I use a variety of therapeutic techniques, but my favorite is Internal Family Systems Therapy.
Maybe you have scoured the internet, the self help section, and your own exhausted brain looking for a way to make it better, but you’ve still come up empty. Maybe you are wondering, “Why do I still feel like this?” I'd love the honor of helping you explore your inner world, and find gentleness and compassion for yourself. I believe that you have the innate ability to achieve the life you want. My job as a therapist is to help you believe it too.

Bill enjoys working with couples, individual men, women, and older teens dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, addiction, spiritual confusion, family conflict, and difficult life transitions.
“All those who wander are not lost” - J.R. Tolkien. Helping people find their way has always been something Bill has been called to do. Whether it was ministering to young people as a student pastor, connecting the unemployed to new careers at SC Works Upstate, or assisting those trying to find freedom from substance abuse at The Forrester Center for Behavioral Health, the platform may have varied, but the mission stayed the same. Meet people where they are, build relationships, and partner with them as they strive to make their lives better.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
