In addition to my therapy practice, I also provide forensic psychology services including evaluations for family and criminal court, expert witness testimony, consultation with attorneys and parenting consulting.
I help my clients by helping them to understand themselves better. In the process, they are able to find ways to be happier, more effective, and better able to solve their problems. I am comfortable with a number of approaches to therapy. Regardless of the specific approach, I help by providing keys to self-knowledge, warmth, respect, and honesty. I'm able to listen to things that are hard to talk about, tell you things that are hard to hear, and build hope in the process.

So it's come to this. You're looking for a counselor. Maybe you've been putting this off for a long time and something happened just recently to make you take the step. Maybe someone you know thinks you should "get help." Maybe there's something you want to talk about but don't know if you can tell your family or friends. Or maybe it's something totally different. My job is to give you the tools you need to make your current situation better by increasing your knowledge, skills, insight, awareness, and most of all, hope.

I am Co-founder and Clinical Director at Renewed Family Connections.
We believe that too often families are excluded from the care of substance use and mental health issues. Our approach is rooted in the understanding that substance use disorders, mental health challenges, and family dynamics are interconnected. Our team combines compassionate care with evidence-based practices to deliver an effective, individualized approach. Whether addressing substance use, mental health, or family relationship concerns, we utilize methods such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, family systems therapy, and motivational interviewing in our approach. We do not take insurance and are private pay only, at this time.

I find that it is most helpful to speak on the phone initially when sorting out whether you would be comfortable working with me and to see whether I can be helpful with the issues that you are facing. I have worked as a psychologist and marriage and family therapist for over twenty years. I have experience with a wide range of diagnoses including depression and anxiety. My caseload includes adults, adolescents and children. I see families and couples who are struggling with relationships, mental health problems and adjustment to life's developmental challenges.

Together, we can address: anxiety and stress, depression, trauma and dissociation, loss and grief, and family conflict.
My approach is focused on the solutions you want to achieve. When you work with me, we will articulate what it is you want and need to move forward, and then we will harvest the unique strengths you already have to get there. We will collaborate on changing the aspects of your behavior that are not working for you. My approach does not begin and end with problems or the past—we only make those inquiries in order to frame solutions for the present. My work draws from several theoretical frameworks, including CBT, Internal Family Systems, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, CPT, and EMDR to help you achieve your goals and aspirations

My interests include working with those affected by challenging relationships, couple/ family conflict, bullying, difficult life transitions, and various types of loss and trauma that can lead to anxiety, depression, and grief.
Feeling overwhelmed? Inadequate? Undone? Exhausted trying to juggle everything perfectly all of the time? Disappointed with relationships? Ready to consider what keeps you from changes you want? Wondering if life could be better if things were "tweaked" a little? You are not alone! You matter. Your story matters. Help also matters because we weren't meant to "go it alone". All of us need help along the way. And the client-therapist relationship matters: it's important that you are comfortable and find a safe place where your story---your thoughts, perspectives, hopes, and dreams---can be heard, valued, and repurposed for your next chapter.

My specialty areas include parenting, couples, adult individuals and adolescents. I help parents to see the mind behind their child's behaviors and empower them to parent through positive connection while maintaining structure. With couples I focus on fostering greater attunement and communication while also empowering each individual to bring the best part of themselves and advocate for what they desire in the relationship. I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depressed mood, low self-esteem, relationships concerns, life transitions, exploring spirituality and family of origin issues. I also see adolescents experiencing the struggles common to that stage of life.

LIfe can bring many seasons, just like the weather, and some of those seasons can be difficult to navigate on your own whether its relationship difficulties, trauma, family hardships, and events that cause distress and pain.
I have been working in mental health for the past ten years and specialize in work with adults and adolescents that have experienced significant trauma, anxiety, depression, family issues, grief and loss, marital issues and suicidal ideation. I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT), and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). I also use mindfulness, deep breathing, and art therapy techniques throughout my practice and try to tailor my therapy approach to meet the individual where they are at and what they find most helpful.

Entering into (or even the thought of entering into) a therapeutic process takes a lot of ambition and courage. The therapy process is not an easy one, but it can be a highly successful and rewarding one when it lessens your suffering, reduces troubling symptoms, and increases your ability to cope with the stressors of life. These are all outcomes that are best achieved within a nurturing and supportive relationship with a helping professional. It would be my honor to support you in your quest towards health.

I believe in the inherent glory, beauty, and strength within each individual. While this may sound idealistic, it's undeniable that our lives often encompass brokenness, pain, darkness, and shame, which can obscure our true essence. My mission is to guide you through understanding your personal narrative or "mythos" that has sculpted your identity. This involves exploring your self-perception, spiritual beliefs, and interactions with the world. I am committed to journeying with you through the depths of pain and darkness to uncover the profound truth of our existence - that we are intimately known and cherished by God.

I’m glad you're considering getting help for yourself (or a loved one). The thought of working through the challenges you’re facing may bring up feelings of worry, disappointment, indifference, even anger. And yet, you may not know what to do next. I want to help you with these things. Over the years I’ve been fortunate to work with people who’ve experienced the above thoughts and feelings but were willing to go through some pain and discomfort to ultimately be free from long-lasting (sometimes life-long) mental health difficulties.

Trauma and loss are a common part of every person’s life. We suffer beyond the experience of a specific trauma and loss, and our lives are impacted by that suffering. In the face of trauma and loss, our culture often sends the message that we should “just move on and get over it.” I would rather honor what has been lost and allow for grief to be felt. Only when we have truly processed our trauma and loss can we move into our lives holding the grief in healthy ways.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
