Feeling comfortable and safe with a therapist is an important part of beginning the healing process. It can be difficult to find someone you trust during traumatic or uncertain times in your life. I have successfully treated couples, individuals, children, and families with a variety of presenting problems, and have also been trained in play therapy, sand tray therapy, EMDR, AUTPlay and Brain Gym. I utilize strength-based approaches and offer hope when hope is hard to find.

Now that I've returned home to raise my family and live the Kansas good life, it's my belief that my broad cultural & geographical training grant the experience and expertise to understand you and your challenges without assumption.
I'm a Licensed Psychologist specializing in the treatment of children and families with an extensive background in child, adolescent and adult behavioral therapy and diagnosis. I believe the road to change is entirely personal; everyone travels their own path, at their own pace. Because despite similarities in experience, every individual has challenges unique to them. Together, within an empowering environment, we can find solutions to alter behaviors, explore meaning, improve moods and build relationships.

I'm a psychologist with 30 years experience, having had three stages of my career: a) testing students with learning disabilities; b) working with family-owned businesses; and c) helping build healthy workplace cultures, primarily with the 5 languages of appreciation. I'm moving into a new stage - consulting with individuals wanting help growing into a new stage of their life and career. This includes family businesses, leaders (and potential leaders), writers, trainers - individuals needing help getting "unstuck".

Humans were created to enjoy our relationships, but so often anxiety, disconnection from our true selves, life stresses, and unresolved conflicts overshadow that innate joy in each other. I work with individuals to help them understand themselves, their histories, and build the life they want to live for the future. I utilize Gottman Method in couples therapy to help couples rediscover the joy in their relationship. I offer individual, couple, and family therapy in East Wichita, as well as tele-therapy for anyone living in Kansas.

Let’s build together! I work with ages 11-75 on depression, anxiety, ADHD, family conflict, relationship problems, LBGTQ and many other areas.
From a young age I wanted to be a therapist. My goal is to be the therapist that I needed as a child and an adult. Someone who would not only listen but really hear me, would be able to relate to me, offer skills, guidance and support to help me learn how to improve all areas of my life. Let me help you find the skills, knowledge and support you need to improve your relationships, your responses, your understanding to reach success in your life. We will create a treatment plan together to help guide you to reach your goals. Setbacks happen, nobody is perfect. When they do happen, we will work through and figure out ways to modify.

If you're tired of pain keeping you from peace, CBT, EMDR, Gottman's Method, Attachment Theory, Mindfulness, EFT, Systemic Family Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy are tools that can help.
You want to be seen, understood, and supported. Most therapists do that well. But you deserve more than most- you deserve a therapist that helps you discern your life story, resolve your emotional difficulties, strengthen your relationships, and fulfill your purpose, so you can cultivate a life you love. I've helped hundreds of people facing difficult paths of grief, trauma, depression, conflict, and anxiety reach a deeper experience of gratitude, peace, love, and fulfillment in their lives. Therapy is hard work, but it is not harder than living with unaddressed pain and in dysfunctional patterns.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
