I love it when clients tell me, "I come from a dysfunctional family.
I have been at this for a long time and I feel that people know what's best and what they want for themselves, but they don't know how to get there at times. They need help, support and confidence in themselves to get there. There are so many variables that get in the way including various forms of abuse, mental health issues, family problems and drug and alcohol issues. I love to help clients work through these issues and concerns to help them restore confidence in themselves and be able to trust their own decisions. Most of all they deserve to look forward to their future!

Whether you're an individual seeking healing or a family in need of support, I am here to help you get results. The effectiveness of EMDR has been established by rigorous research and has been proven to be the most effective treatment for anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, chronic pain, relationship issues and more; surpassing other common modalities even CBT. Many individuals are often frustrated with the lack of progress made through traditional therapy. By contrast EMDR is proven to quickly heal issues with lasting results. Contact me for scheduling.

You’re lying in bed next to your partner, but it feels like there’s an unbridgeable gap between you. Lately, it’s as though you’re just roommates. You tolerate each other and have built a functional life together, but something integral is missing. There’s no passion anymore, and the romance has all but disappeared. When you try to discuss these issues, it always seems to devolve into a screaming match. Neither of you is having your needs met. You’ve both become so locked into your family roles that there appears to be no way out. You’re not ready to give up, but you don’t know how much longer you can go on like this. You need help.

In my practice, I focus on the specific needs and goals of the individual, couple, or family through story, intervention, tools, and feedback.
The capacity to heal and to love never cease to amaze me. We are miraculous and complex creatures and my aim is to create space for honoring that. For the past 17 years I have specialized in working with people struggling with eating disorders and co-morbid conditions such as depression, anxiety, identity issues, PTSD/trauma, OCD, and substance abuse. I also work with people who are exploring issues related to identity, transition, gender, sexuality, and the overall daily human experience, in order to support people in finding meaning, purpose, and connection.

A majority of my work is related to reproductive medicine and family building.
In my practice, I work with adolescents, children and adults. My specialties include: relationship problems, adolescent development, health psychology, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, learning disabilities and attentional problems. Infertility counseling is also a special interest of mine, including third party reproduction issues (donor and surrogacy). My therapeutic approach varies depending on the issues with which you are struggling and who you are as a person. I don't have one approach that fits all clients but tailor my work to the individual. In general, I help clients identify and enhance their current psychological strengths in order to address their problems.

I use effective therapeutic models like EFT, to help you build stronger, more peaceful connections within yourself and your family.
Are you finding it challenging to navigate a relationship that's deeply important to you? Maybe things haven’t been going well in your marriage, or perhaps you’re dealing with confusing behavior from your child. For one reason or another, things feel tense between you. You've tried different ways of helping things get better but you still feel stuck. You might still be holding onto hope for a more connected, fulfilling, and peaceful relationship. If that hope is driving you to consider therapy, I’d be honored to support you through that stuck place.

I help teens, preteens and young adults learn how to cope with life stressors so that they can be happier in their personal and family lives. Most teens and young adults struggle with becoming overwhelmed and not sure how to deal with all the emotions that come up for them. So much is changing so quickly, and it can be difficult to feel like you are keeping up with the constant transitions.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
