Music is another big part of my life, and I enjoy attending concerts with my family whenever possible.
Accepting new clients and couples, I firmly believe that the relationship between the client and therapist is critical to the therapeutic process. For this reason, I make it my mission to create a safe, comfortable, and non-judgmental environment during our sessions. My ultimate goal is to ensure that my clients have a positive and fulfilling therapeutic experience. To achieve this, I recognize that a one-size-fits-all approach is not effective. Instead, I tailor our sessions to address your unique needs and utilize various interventions that are best suited for you.

Most people with substance abuse issues have co-existing mental health concerns like depression and anxiety as well as family problems.
I have been helping people make positive changes in their life since 1986. I work in a collaborative style that begins with creating a supportive therapeutic relationship. People need to feel safe in my office in order to make successful life changes. I don't rush the change process but act as a facilitator of personal growth.

Relationships with yourself, your partner, your family, and the world.
Feeling overwhelmed? Seeing personal patterns that just don't work? Stuck with a problem that won't go away? If you notice that you aren't being, doing, or having what you want in the world it can often help to explore why, once and for all. With seasoned expertise and tools that work, I help individuals and couples understand how thoughts and feelings impact behaviors and relationships, and how learning new approaches to old problems creates the change you want.

My work incorporates creative expression and is family inclusive when needed.
Is your teen or young adult feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, school stress, or the transition to college? As a parent, watching them struggle can be heart-wrenching—whether it’s a younger teen navigating social pressures or a college student grappling with independence. I specialize in helping teens and young adults overcome anxiety, heal from trauma, and adjust to major life transitions. I offer culturally sensitive support, particularly for South Asian and Asian families, where balancing family values, with growing personal identity and need for independence can create unique stressors. I understand.

That becomes more challenging when the relationship that create your family is strained.
In life we try to balance the responsibilities of work, school and day-to day life so we can enjoy our time with our family and friends. However when we struggle with issues related to trauma, grief, addiction, anxiety, depression, or major life changes it becomes harder to find the enjoyment in life. I've been working with youth, young adults and their families for 10 years. My goal is to help you figure out how to meet the demands of day-to-day life while also seeking the opportunities to enjoy life as well.

I have 18 years of experience at various mental health settings as an individual/ family therapist, supervisor, parenting coach with extensive training in attachment based approaches in working with children, adolescents, couples, and families who struggle with relationship issues such as parent-child conflict, marital issues, and life transition issues.
We have all experienced challenging times in our lives that have prevented us from living our lives to the fullest. While it can be scary to confide in strangers about your emotional struggle, the connection you establish with your therapist will undoubtedly be a source of relief and comfort that helps you move forward in your life, especially when your family is in crisis. The process of establishing emotional connection with others stems from one of the most basic human needs, and is the building block of healthy relationships. In this way, therapeutic relationship can be utilized to help you flourish in your own personal life.

I grew-up in a family where there wasn't much empathy or respectful communication.
Usually, a person is compelled to seek-out a therapist because of desperation: Desperation to extricate her/himself from depression, anxiety and or behaviors that contribute to conflict, or loneliness. Sometimes a person wants to be more successful in relationships or at work, A couple seeks-out a therapist because their frequent bickering has led to frustration, isolation and loneliness, and they don't know how get out of it. You may feel that your partner no longer values you. You need to be heard, valued and supported-to regain the closeness and understanding you once had.

Forging a personal identity often creates peer problems, family conflicts, sagging self-worth and doubts about how to move forward.
"Thoughts turn into Words. Words turn into Actions. Actions turn into Character. Character is everything." To create a more joyful and meaningful life is a passion of mine. I work creatively and collaboratively with adults, teens, and children to explore the heart of the matter. Together we consider (investigate, examine, observe) symptoms and emotional pain; we design realistic goals; we develop skills to alleviate obstacles; and, as we work to achieve your dreams, we discover your increased motivation and self-confidence.

I utilize mindfulness practices, compassion- and acceptance-based methodologies, combined with Gottman couples counseling, step- family counseling, and mediation and conflict resolution strategies.
Is your marriage or partnership showing signs of stress? Not sure if blending families is a good idea? Over 60% of blended families in the U.S. do not succeed and this impacts children's mental health. I help couples in conflict or who have grown apart create a more loving home using evidence-based methods, including the Gottman Method, Terry Real's Relational Life and Bader-Pearson Couples Therapy. I utilize compassion- and mindfulness-based methods to improve your parenting AND your partnership at the same time, while addressing the underlying causes of conflicts. I work primarily with adults.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
