I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) and incorporate pieces of IFS (Internal Family Systems).
Life can be challenging and traumas both big and small can impact the way we see ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. We can find ourselves stuck in patterns that no longer serve us. Change is possible. Our work together will build upon your strengths. We will find new opportunities for growth so that you can show up in your life feeling a greater sense of freedom. My therapy style is to create a safe space focused on acceptance, respect and authenticity. I know that there is no single approach to therapy so I work collaboratively with each individual to find the best approach.

An ideal client for me is someone who has difficulty managing their emotions, engages in frequent negative thinking, and has trouble communicating their needs with family and friends. They want to decrease their anxious or depressive behaviors but have little knowledge of how to begin regulating their emotions.

I am experienced in depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, relational conflict, family systems, addiction, criminal justice, anger management, eating disorders/body image, and mood disorders. The ideal client actively wants to explore their behaviors and thinking patterns and identify the underlying causes of these behaviors. In addition, the ideal client will be willing to tackle goals inside & outside therapy sessions. My ideal client would be an individual who is internally and externally motivated to change their life. They show up to sessions on time consistently and make a conscious effort to engage in the therapeutic process.

Within practice, I provide Individual, Couples and Family Counseling.
When I work with a client, my hope is that the individual will experience a sense of understanding and hopefulness for change in their present situation. I believe that when an individual feels that the clinician is truly invested in "walking with" the "whole person" on their journey, the client will gain a new perspective on their movement in life. When I see individuals who are struggling with anxiety and/or depression, relational concerns, life stressors, and/or loss and transition issues, my main focus is to support the client in developing a hopefulness that positive change is possible.

Families I meet are confronting obstacles related to stress, anxiety, depression, identity, self esteem, and behavior. These challenges are taxing for one person, impacting our family and personal relationships. Many carry this burden, seeking an opportunity to set them and forget them, searching for a new way to live. Hope is found in the family’s inner strength to grow and adapt, even as our roles and identities change. Let’s tap into your power to negotiate the ups and downs of relationships, mental health, and transitions.

“I just can’t. There’s just too much to do and too much to worry about. Work, family, money, kids…who has time to breathe?” You're about ready to fall apart, but fear drives you to push through. Too many people are relying on you to be “okay,” so failure is not an option. No one around you sees it, no one hears you screaming in your head. You've become a pro at wearing the appropriate mask to fit your current audience. Your thoughts keep you up at night, your heart pounds, it feels like an elephant is sitting on your chest. And at the same time, you're just so sad and lonely. You can't help but wonder, “what is wrong with me?”

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
