As an eclectic therapist, I use multiple techniques such as client centered, existential, trauma-focused, art therapy, CBT, and family therapy.
My ideal client would be someone who wants support and guidance to make sense of things that have happened to them in the past and who wants to invest in their overall healing and well-being to get more out of their current life. I welcome the opportunity to help clients who feel wounded and confused by mixed messages given by their family, school, churches, etc. as well as who may have lost their sense of direction and fulfillment in relationships, work, self-care, and faith. Clients would have a safe and nonjudgmental space to be themselves in order to reclaim who they want to be and to practice grace and self-compassion.

I also have had training in ecosystemic structural family therapy in which helps examine behavioral patterns in the home.
Research shows at least 1 in 5 people struggle with an anxiety disorder. Helping someone with anxiety or OCD has become a true passion of mine- or the "bread and butter" of my therapy skillset. I am a state licensed professional counselor drawn towards helping children and adults to be the best version of themselves. I primarily use a short term, problem solving approach also known as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), but often use a "neapolitan" combination approach in working with people to tailor to their each individual needs.

I also work in the field as a Director of a family therapy program, as well as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology.
Many of my clients are men or women who are going through some type of life challenge. Many of these individuals are looking to talk to someone about their relationship, their marriage, their divorce...many are fathers or mothers looking for advice. I have noticed more and more men have tried therapy in the last few years, Many people are at a breaking point, and need help. Sometimes it just takes one person who hears you, understands you and is there to help guide you. The next step is to reach out.

I believe that it can be important to look at family of origin issues in order to gain insight into present day concerns.
Do you feel stuck or unfulfilled? Do you want to make changes but don't know where to start? I'd love to walk beside you and help you find your way. I am a licensed professional counselor with 12 years of experience. The majority of my work has been with college students, but I really enjoy meeting with adults of all ages. I often work with clients who are dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, family issues and life transitions. For those who are interested, I enjoy helping clients make changes to their sleep, stress management and self-care habits as these changes can vastly improve mental health and well-being.

I believe everyone deserves a safe, non-judgmental therapeutic space to process emotions, stress, trauma, success, hope, and life goals, and be validated all along the way. My experience has been in both home and outpatient settings. I’ve provided in-person and telehealth therapy sessions. I view all people, families, and communities as connected through relationships. The struggles we experience daily are symptoms of relationship issues that require healing. A family therapy approach results in the strengthening and healing of relationships, decreasing anxiety, learning how to put self first, and increasing self-esteem.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
