I have helped people with relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, stress reduction, divorce and blended family issues, life transitions, past trauma, and spiritual growth.
Life is a journey and sometimes it helps to have some support along the way. A good therapy relationship can help engage you in an inner journey home: toward self-acceptance, compassion and forgiveness, toward living a more authentic life and toward fostering satisfying meaningful relationships. My work is informed by ongoing studies in Emotionally Focused Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Hypnotherapy.

I enjoy working with preteens, teens and adults. I have specialized experience working with juvenile offenders, particularly youth who have been incarcerated. In addition, I have a special interest in helping members of the Native community address issues which sometimes stem from Historical trauma, including family and domestic violence, addiction and poverty. I enjoy watching clients embrace their own strengths and begin to enjoy the freedom and joy which comes from discovering their purpose and living the life they were meant to live.

Therapy is a collaborative process that can help us move through painful situations and challenging transitions, finding meaning even in darker places. As the poet May Sarton wrote, 'without darkness/nothing comes to birth/As without light/nothing flowers.' Constructing a safe and supportive container for healing allows us to explore patterns in a different light. In this renewed relational field, development and choices take root. Grounded in Somatics, an approach that builds awareness of links between mind and body, I am influenced by Jungian analytic psychology, psychodynamic, cognitive/behavioral, and family systems frameworks.

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, depth psychotherapist, and my practice is located in the village of Mendocino, California.
At times we are thrown in to an experience of life that calls for a new way of responding. Thumped by unrelenting negative self-judgment, stuck in swamps of depression, seized by insecurities, paralyzing uncertainty, anxiety, panic, or held in the unforgiving clutches of recurring memories (trauma, grief, regret), the world can seem vast, uncaring, and harsh. And, in that world we may feel disconnected, alone, even fearful. Psychotherapy with me includes deeply confidential, trustworthy, empathic, accepting, sacred space in which I deeply listen, you explore, and come to understand your unique experience in pursuit of symptom reduction, increased self-reliance, and personal transformation.

Despair, depression, and an overwhelming sense of emptiness. So many people suffer under the weight of these feelings. Because of them relationships flounder and don’t make headway. Family life and parenting become endless arenas for unhappiness and anger, and in the end, life is not lived to the fullest.
Being in a relationship brings all our weaknesses to the fore. Parenting adds another element of difficulty, bringing up issues from childhood, and memories of painful and disappointing relationships with our parents. There are no quick and easy solutions to unhappiness, but

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
