My areas of clinical focus include grief, intersectional identities, relationships, life transitions, family, systemic oppression and trauma.
I believe that the current framework of "mental illness" tells us that we are the problem. You are not the problem. While society encourages us to “fix” or “stop” painful emotional experiences, I hope to remove the expectation that we need “fixing” in order to thrive. I want to help you feel more connected, authentic and empowered in yourself and in your relationships. Together, we can incorporate and honor all of who you are (mind, body, spirit, community) and begin a healing journey that is centered on the foundation you want for your life and your future.

I am trained in Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Mindfulness.
As a therapist who was born and raised in Hong Kong, I have had the opportunity to work with diverse clients of all backgrounds. I understand the unique challenges faced by children of immigrants, particularly those identifying as Asian American or emerging adults. Asian Americans often struggle with establishing a sense of belonging, internalized judgment of their thoughts, actions, and persistent feelings of inadequacy or shame. It can be challenging to exist between two or more different cultural norms, values, traditions, languages, familial obligations, social dynamics, and more.

I specialize in anxiety, depressive/manic moods, substance use, relational/family health, crisis, and sexuality.
Unlike psychiatry where medication is prescribed to prevent your feelings from being experienced, my practice is designed to make sense and make use of the sensations we are receiving from ourselves. Professionally bringing our attention to psychological symptoms puts us in direct contact with the core of our conflict(s) and sets forth a personal resolution.

While I see clients with a wide range of presenting issues, I have a high level of expertise in family conflict, trauma, addiction, adult children of alcoholics and addicts, codependency, and eating disorders.
My approach to therapy is rooted in a belief that change is possible. Most of my clients come to me because something in their lives isn't working. Whether the problem is familial, romantic, professional, emotional, or even existential, I find it usually comes down to a matter of relationship. How are we relating to the things that cause us to suffer? When we understand these relationships and the parts we play in them, we are free to make different choices, and to experience our lives, ourselves, and our loves in richer, more fulfilling ways.

I use an integrative approach pulling from mindfulness, EMDR, interpersonal neurobiology, polyvagal theory, and Internal Family Systems to promote expansive self-awareness, authentic self-compassion, and improved self-care: the catalysts to change.
I deeply believe in the healing process and an individual's innate capacity for transformation. With over a decade of experience working as a clinical therapist, I believe it's not about working harder but working smarter. Our primary goal is to identify the blocks (namely old patterns/habits, limiting beliefs, patterns of avoidance, etc.) that interfere with your brain and body's natural state of well-being. This can show up as addictions, chronic pain, anxiety, or depression. Whatever you're struggling with right now, your system desires its natural state of equilibrium and will guide us towards healing.

Accepting new clients! It is not always easy separating our personal lives from our professional lives when the boundaries we try to maintain in order to excel in both spheres often bleed into each other. You want to bring the best of yourself to all facets of your life, but when issues such as substance abuse, depression, marital strife, family problems, & conflicts with co-workers are so prevalent, how do we cope? What do we do with our mental and emotional baggage? How do we remain balanced and calm when the world we live in demands so much of us?

I received my Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University.
Hello and welcome! I view mental health and its importance the same way that I view getting my car serviced; sometimes you go in just for a tune up and other times it requires more serious work. Either way, the service is beneficial and things start working a lot smoother afterwards. My goal is to create an environment that is safe and non-judgemental so clients feel comfortable disclosing whatever is on their hearts and minds. Clients come to me with a variety of concerns/needs ranging from relationship issues, stress, anxiety to simply needing a sounding board. Whatever the concern may be, you are welcome.

My extensive clinical training includes working with children, teenagers, and adults with anxiety, depression, and family/childhood trauma, In addition, I have worked with couples who have experienced relational conflicts, extramarital affairs, and sexual difficulties.
My therapeutic approach mainly focuses on helping my clients identify their strengths to help alleviate anxiety, depression, and trauma. I am a firm believer that our childhood experiences contribute to our beliefs, behavioral patterns, and selecting a romantic partner. Therapy is a process! To allow ourselves to be intimate and vulnerable with someone about our experiences and trauma can be daunting. As a therapist, it is my goal to help validate, create a safe environment and help understand aspects of lived experiences.

The clients who come to see me are adults of all ages whose lives are diminished by depression or anxiety, whether lingering or overwhelming. Such feelings make it difficult to focus on tasks or leave the house. Some clients struggle with unsupportive family members or relationship partners; others cannot shake off the impact of trauma they suffered as children or adults. Often I see young people who want to be Independent Adults, but feel they’ve lost their way, cannot find stable relationships, or establish boundaries with parents or roommates. My older adults are coping with aging; but they desire social connection and purpose.

All of our lives have been drastically impacted by the crisis the world is going through. There is increased fear surrounding all of the unknowns. Like a lot of people, you may be feeling lost, anxious, and uncertain. Even if you and your loved ones are safe, being at home 24-7 with your family brings extra stress outside the norm, while living alone could feel isolating and lonely. If you’re struggling more than usual with anxiety, depression, or stress right now you’re not alone. I’m here and I can help you (and/or your family) regain a sense of control over the discomforts you may currently be experiencing.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
