I strive to hold a safe space to navigate the highs and lows of this journey called life! I align with mindfulness-based practice along IFS (Internal Family Systems). We can explore together how past events might impact your present day relationships with self and others. Challenging childhoods, relationships and experiences may have resulted in picking up old belief systems that no longer serve you!

My main specialty is adoption and attachment. I was adopted and have reunited with my birth parents and have worked with hundreds of adoptees as well as adoptive parents seeking to understand their child/young adult. I work best with those who are seeking insights into themselves. I can help guide you if you are looking to do some self exploration and find out why you keep repeating the same patterns. I have worked extensively with teens, young adults, and with parents. I have treated many families who are struggling with navigating issues related to family dynamics.

I am passionate about relationships and would love to be able to help anyone struggling in any relationship. I am currently an intern student completing my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy at National University. I implement a variety of evidence-based modalities when working with clients. I appreciate how Emotionally Focused Therapy focuses on how our early experiences inform how we engage in adult relationships (our attachment styles) and how to change the negative interactional cycle that we often find ourselves in.

In addition to weekly phone or in-person sessions, I offer 2-3 day intensive private sessions for an individual, couple, or family that wants to resolve issues in a shorter time frame.
Specializing in Eating Disorders, Addictions, and Relationship Issues, I have been working with individuals, couples, families, and businesses for over 30 years. As a client, you will learn how to find peace inside yourself without using something or someone outside yourself to feel better. You will learn how to connect with yourself and others on a deeper and more meaningful level. You will learn how to stay instead of running, to speak instead of shutting down, to forgive instead of punishing. You will learn to see your reflection in the face of another and love what you see.

I have experience supporting individuals facing the hidden pandemics of our time: anxiety, trauma (intergenerational, cultural, racial, childhood, and other forms), depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and family system dynamics.
Stories are one of the primary reasons why I chose to enter this profession and, while I have only been a professional for part of my life, I have been listening to peoples stories for a long time. I believe stories is where our humanity rests and stories display the full range of our complexity and connection as humans.

I wanted to get into the mental health field from a young age, as I was always surrounded by friends and family who struggled with mental health.
I am a Licensed Social Worker with a passion for decreasing the stigma surrounding mental health and promoting the health and well being of my clients. For my undergraduate degree, I moved from Central Jersey (Yes! It exists!) to South Jersey to attend Stockton University. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work with a Minor in Behavioral Neuroscience from Stockton, and then moved on to attend graduate school in Philadelphia. I received my Master of Social Work Degree with a clinical concentration from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy and Practice in May of 2020.

Finding the right therapist is the most difficult part of the therapy process. I congratulate you for doing your research and trying to find the right match for you and your family. I'm passionate about helping people who are struggling with anxiety, stress, mood instability, relationship challenges, and who are going through a difficult life transition find health and healing. If this describes you, I'm here to help you feel more stable, secure and connected to yourself and others. You are not broken. You can feel more peace, compassion, and kindness toward yourself. And in turn make the changes you want to make in your life.

As a licensed therapist, I have supported a variety of people in resolving troublesome situations that have been limiting their ability to effectively meet the challenges of their daily lives. These situations may be related to their jobs, relationships with friends and family, or the negative self-talk that we impose on ourselves. I have worked alongside families that are experiencing challenges related to having a child with a developmental disability. This included supporting the child with the disability themselves.

Yá'át'ééh Hi Shí éí (I am) Davina Morris. My clans are Todích'íí'nii (Bitter Water), born for Mexican American, my maternal grandparents are (Tsi'naajinii). I’ve worked primarily with adolescents providing individual therapy, family therapy, and psychoeducational groups. Adolescents are the population that resonates with me the most because they have unheard voices. I’ve found that listening to our youth is not only a teaching from my Diné culture, but I believe that we all have our own cultures that have similar insights. I know we can return to a culturally holistic approach to listening to teens and listening to one another.

I integrate a psychodynamic-experiential therapy approach while I utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, DIalectical Behavior Therapy, Internal Family Systems parts work, and mindfulness therapy to form a comprehensive plan to meet your unique needs.
I believe when we are accurately seen, fully understood, and compassionately supported, we become empowered to discover the complexities that hold us captive and prevent us from finding fulfillment. Thus, it is my joy and passion to hold space for individuals to feel compassionately understood for the nuanced and complex experience of their journey. I strive to form an honest, transparent, and collaborative relationship that honors the diversity, preferences, needs, and identity of my clients. It is from that foundation that we’ll explore creative solutions.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
