Experienced as a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst, I believe that psychological development continues throughout life and that effective therapy is forward-looking. Therapy not only offers opportunities to relieve symptoms of distress and to recover from maladaptive patterns of functioning, but it offers chances for new beginnings. I believe that effective treatment is based on an understanding of the unique circumstances of an individual, respects the need for confidentiality, and fosters a collaborative effort that facilitates psychological development.
I have been particularly interested in life-transitions, especially as adolescents become young adults, and as adults mature. These transitions include life changes such as entry into the work-force, career choice, partner choice, marriage, pregnancy, infertility, parenthood, self-development, care for aging parents, divorce, and other losses.
I also have a Master's degree in Nursing. I am interested in ways that medical and psychological health affects well-being. I have taught medical students and currently supervise psychiatry residents and psychology doctoral candidates. I teach psychotherapy and psychoanalysis at the Denver Institute for Psychoanalysis.
