People I work with are often struggling with issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, and life transitions. Over a long career, as a Psychotherapist and Social Work Professor, I have come to appreciate the role therapy can play in the process of taking control of our lives and building healthier relationships. This process is marked by certain key steps which include: identifying client strengths, finding alternate coping mechanisms, and bolstering resilience. Central to all of these is fostering Self Awareness: transformation of automatic behavior into conscious, deliberate choices.
I believe people can change when they participate in a relationship with an active, engaged, responsive therapist. My methods place special emphasis on psychodynamic relational concepts which encourage therapists to connect more authentically with clients to form powerful therapeutic relationships—which in turn empower our clients to change their lives.
Clients experiencing conflict or distress often find my approach, built on compassionate listening from an empathic stance, helps them identify options and prioritize goals on a path to relief from pain.
