I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT) for couples and am en route to becoming an AASECT certified sex therapist.
I work with all types of couples to resolve conflict and increase emotional and physical intimacy in relationships. Clients who contact my practice are usually seeking counseling because they are struggling with a disconnected relationship, working toward healing after betrayal, having sexual difficulties, or contemplating separation. Through the use of research-supported approaches to couple therapy, relational wounds can be healed and a deeper connection in our most important relationships is possible.

I find these tools, along with EFT, to be useful in helping couples know each other more fully, experience healing & forgiveness, better understand their strengths, communicate more effectively & develop deeper intimacy.
Our lives are the context for tremendous brokenness and tremendous beauty. I would love to walk alongside you as you tend to the brokenness and discover the beauty. I specialize in supporting individuals and couples towards healing and hope using research based therapy approaches. I provide a safe place to process life changes or relationship challenges. I work from a systems perspective, meaning issues do not exist in isolation but in the context of families, communities, and cultures.

For couples: I use Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT) to help you build deep trust and safety with each other.
Is OCD/anxiety getting in the way of the life and relationships you want? As a psychologist specializing in both anxiety treatment and couples work, I help people overcome their fears to build rich, connected lives. I have expertise in modern cognitive behavioral therapies (CBTs) - but I work organically, using powerful behavioral concepts in an alive, compassionate way. We will try to radically open up your life, so worries and compulsions aren't distracting you from who and what is truly important. This work will be guided by up-to-date scientific evidence, but it will be a collaborative and human process, not a mechanical one.

I use Emotionally focused, Narrative, IFS, CBT, expressive arts, Somatic & Mindfulness to support women processing grief, and unprocessed emotions that may be creating emotional blocks.
I enjoy working with healers and caregivers who are wanting to start over in one or more areas of their life. Conditioning can pull us into personas, beliefs and rules that have us make decisions from a dense energy, influencing our physical and emotional health. I use a holistic approach and expressive arts to repair old wounds while healing the communication between mind and body. I use expressive arts, IFS, food science, poetry, spiritual awareness and soul collage to help visualize and understand self led energy. I can help you connect to your mind/body intuition. I also provide walk and talk therapy in Seattle.

Individuals seek therapy to make life changes, try new behaviors, and learn to heal/grow. Often, this is precipitated by a crisis demanding such growth. I encourage clients to gather and bolster personal resources in order to address problems they are struggling with and create new ways of thinking/believing. Our work will focus on the presenting issue, previous coping attempts, related emotions, and possible alternatives. Effective therapy may include unresolved family-of-origin issues, the building of interpersonal skills, and/or the resolution of unhealthy views of self or others and unprocessed trauma.

Over the past six years, it has been such a pleasure walking with my clients through their journeys of healing and change. I have had the privilege of sitting with parents struggling through the heartache of divorce, immigrants and children of immigrants who are making a home against all odds, college students fighting dominant culture norms, survivors of marital abuse, and those fighting to escape their childhood trauma. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in education and non-profits in India, and I am astounded, then and now, by the human capacity for resilience and strength in the face of hardship.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
