I will use tools and techniques from Cognitive-Behavioral Theory, Narrative theory, Emotionally Focused Theory and EMDR.
Life is like a story! That story has many chapters, where some may not go as expected. My passion is to help people find peace in those difficult chapters of life. The people, places and things you experience in life do not have to affect your story negatively. If they have and you are ready to close those chapters, I am here to help. I will listen to your story with the goal of walking through those experiences with you to decrease the affect they have had on your story. It is time to live your life to the fullest!

Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT) is the main way I help couples reconnect.
Hello - my name is Trey Manor. I help couples and individuals understand and express themselves and their experiences. Our culture doesn't really teach us how to verbalize what we want, need, or fear. Often times, we seek out ways to avoid or numb out those difficult, painful, confusing, or overwhelming emotions and memories. I get to help couples, individuals, military and first responders figure out and verbalize their inner turmoil. I work with individuals seeking to understand and express their emotions or recover from traumatic event(s). I also specialize in couples who are seeking greater communication and connection skills.

My goal as a therapist is to help people find the support and direction they need to deal with the obstacles that life throws at them. I truly appreciate the bravery it takes to ask for help, along with wanting you to know that you're never alone during this journey. I try to provide a sanctuary of safety and support where you can openly explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences using a compassionate and judgment-free approach. My desire to fully grasp the complexities of the human mind and behavior has prompted me to pursue a career in counseling.

Therapy is a safe space to spill the tea! No matter how supportive our friends, family, and partners are we can all hit a wall with sharing. We convince ourselves that we have overshared or over burdened them so we end up holding our thoughts, feelings, worries, shame, and pain inside. This is where therapy can help. Therapy provides a place to talk without judgement or fear. Therapy can also help learn important skills such as healthy communication and setting difficult boundaries. I am here to listen and to walk with you through the pain, healing, frustration, fear, etc.

This is not your typical therapy session. For change to occur, we must resource the nervous system in a healthy way to process emotions and feel safe in our bodies. Culturally many of us have been taught to process emotions cognitively and with rationalizing the 'why' of events. However, this doesn't calm our nervous system; in fact, where this way of coping may have served us well at one point in our lives, it may now make the struggle to manage overwhelming emotions harder. Therapies like somatic awareness and brainspotting help to create new neural pathways to feel safe and change how we made meaning of events and core wounding.

With compassion, insight and acceptance, I can help you explore the issues which prevent you from success in your personal and professional relationships. I believe that we all possess much of the knowledge needed to answer life's questions; however, as with all things, we sometimes simply forget where to look. I see my work primarily as a guide, helping my clients find their own answers and their own happiness.I view therapy as a way to gain self awareness in order to understand one's pattern of relating to others and dealing with life's challenges.

Thank you for being here. My role as a therapist is one of the most sacred parts of my life. Not because of my own abilities, but because of others’ ability to trust me with the most intimate parts of their lives, while allowing me to walk alongside them as they discover safety, meaning, belonging, healing, and self-acceptance. I strive to meet each of my clients where they are by honoring their past experiences, while simultaneously welcoming and celebrating their future goals. I value vulnerability, humor, and collaboration within the therapeutic relationship.

I was born and raised in Newark, NJ. I attended Montclair State University for my first two years of undergrad in hopes of becoming a high school math teacher. Not until I served in the U.S. Military did I realize my strong desire to help people overcome their battles associated with mental health. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 2021 from the University of Arizona. I am completing my Master's of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
