In session, I frequently draw upon mindfulness-based interventions, somatic experiencing, emotionally focused therapy, family systems theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, The Gottman Method, embodiment, and attachment theory.
I’m guided by my belief in the eternal worth and inherent wisdom of each person. Each individual is the expert of their own experience, and, within each of us, lies an immense power for self-healing. My therapeutic style can be described as warm, collaborative, and experiential. I view my role in this process as a facilitator, working alongside individuals as they reflect upon their experiences, broaden their awareness, and investigate ongoing behavioral patterns. Together, we may begin to freely explore prevailing paradigms and construct a more personalized path forward.

My style is best described as warm, attentive and curious; and as a trauma specialist I use, and/or am certified in, the following models: Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP); Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP); and Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT).
My primary focus in therapy – with individuals, couples or families – is to support and facilitate my clients in their journey to a deeper understanding and awareness of themselves. This goal is best achieved, I believe, by encouraging self-acceptance and insight, and by forming with each client a safe and nonjudgmental relationship. It is within this alliance that, together, we can explore, understand, and begin to gently dismantle the obstacles and unproductive patterns of coping that, although once useful in dealing with painful life events or childhood relationships, may now be keeping them from enjoying a more fulfilling life.

Prolonged Exposure for trauma) within a radically open and emotionally focused therapeutic relationship.
You've been digging deep, adapting, and getting it done. You've also been struggling deeply for a while and mostly behind the scenes. Perhaps you haven’t before had the time, resources, or good fortune to connect deeply with an effective therapist. Or maybe your best effort work-arounds are understandably becoming less workable over time. Regardless, if you're like most of my clients, you've simply had it with the old way of managing this. There is good reason to hope that solid therapy work can translate into easier breaths, a reimagined relationship with yourself, and more moments of authentic connection. I've seen it many times.

I've spent many years working with individuals to navigate their symptoms to work together to make daily life feel more balanced. I have extensive training and experience to treat the whole person with a mindful approach.

Additionally I incorporate the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT), ECO/Nature therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
I offer expressive and emotionally based therapies to children (ages 6 and older) a warm and nurturing environment which provides a safe space to do any healing they might need to do to move forward, to feel better about who they are, or share what might have happened in their lives that makes their heart ache. I help teens and young adults navigate the turbulence of hormones, and school work, friendships and home life, college and relationships, and all the other activities and significant events happening, while trying to discover who they are and what makes them feel most alive.

I use Imago, EFT, and Family Systems, to help couples get to the root of their problems.
Are you feeling alone, anxious or depressed? Unsatisfied with your career, have chronic pain or illness? Relationship stress, extended family issues? My clients tell me I'm warm, easy to talk to, and down to earth. I use a variety of treatment approaches: psychodynamic and relational, combined with CBT, EFT, and EMDR. EMDR can help almost any problem resolve more quickly because it allows the brain to make changes on a deeper level than just talking. We still talk plenty though, before, during and after EMDR. My clients find telehealth to be helpful and convenient. I see regular clients occasionally at my home office.

I am certified in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, the gold standard of couples therapy with the highest success rate in research—90% of couples improve significantly!.
•••Immediate Openings Available••• You promise yourself you won’t get into the same fight again, but then you inevitably do. It just happens so fast, and now the two of you are going in familiar circles. Maybe one of you gets walled off and seems to just…disappear. Or maybe one of you starts to fight harder, increasing the emotional intensity just to get through. There was once so much love here, but it’s hard to feel it when you’re caught up in a vicious cycle. These experiences can be downright excruciating, and counseling can help you navigate.

I work through a developmental and Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT) lens to help folks understand how the past has impacted their present day relationships, and to problem solve solutions.
You’ve tried everything to reconnect with your partner, save your relationship, or remind yourself of why you fell in love way back when. You’re feeling resentful, the emotional labor feels one sided, and it feels impossible to find each other through the chaos of work, kids, life. It’s terrifying and overwhelming to be fighting all the time, and you’re confused about how it all fell apart. You want to understand the recurring argument and the missed connections that you're having, and start to rebuild the love that you’re afraid to lose.

EFT creates a safe environment to talk about the hard things and begin to risk again so that you can move towards a freer, more grounded way of being.
All relationships hold the capacity for both sacred joy and deep pain. We tend to get stuck in cycles that threaten to derail our connection with the ones who matter most. We lose sight of one another in the daily grind and can’t seem to find our way back to a partner or maybe even to ourselves. That feeling of safety and respect slips away, and you get stuck in negative emotions that steal the love you once held for your partner. You reach out and feel rejected. You take space but feel lonely. You are not the only one. Like you, I’ve experienced negative relationship cycles in my 15-year marriage.

I have training in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), Mindfulness, and expressive arts.
Are you changing jobs and don't know what you want to do? Maybe you're an "empty-nest" parent, newly divorced, or recently retired and wondering, "Now what?" Maybe you are all or none of the above, but find yourself in the midst of change. My area of interest is life transitions. I support clients from diverse backgrounds and ages as they identify new tools that support their growth through various life changes. These transitions can lead us to question our values, identities, and the meanings we make for ourselves, and can impact our sense of self throughout our lives, for children, and young-, mid-life, and older adults.

I work with individuals & couples using the principles of mindfulness that include awareness, embodiment (somatic presence), compassion, and care. From this comes a willingness to be more accepting of self and other, to use more skillful discernment with actions that support you and others, and to feel a greater sense of ease, connection, and happiness. I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy that follows a process that helps couples create a trusting and loving relationship. I too am informed by Buddhist teachings and practice that shows a way to relate to self, other, and world that brings happiness and peace in your life.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
