If "Chance Favors The Prepared Mind" then psychotherapy can provide increased self-awareness and the likelihood of living more authentically and actualizing one's potential. I am a clinical psychologist specializing in health psychology, individual, and couples therapy. Attachment theory, an appreciation for the mind-body connection, and a humanistic approach inform my clinical work and enable me to provide compassionate psychotherapy. My post-doctoral training includes completing workshops in EMDR, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, and a two year certificate in Psychodynamic Couple Therapy at the Training Institute for Mental Health where I have taught..

I practice from two primary modalities ( EFT an AEDP) that help my clients better understand their emotional worlds, process trauma and shift out of long term conflict patterns.
My ideal client(s) will be open to my relentless compassion, nonjudgmental stance, and empathy. S/he or they will walk out of sessions feeling a strong sense of relief, no longer alone with overwhelming thoughts and feelings. S/he or they will be benefit from a strong sense of my presence and caring that carries through from one session to the next. S/he or they will benefit from a therapist that does not simply sit back and listen and nod, but rather one actively listens and participates in the conversation. My ideal client(s) is excited to walk out of session with a much better understanding of themselves and how to move forward.

In couples therapy I combine family systems theory with Gottman and Emotionally Focused techniques to address communication, conflict resolution, and emotional intimacy concerns, creating a healthy core-focused relationship.
I provide general psychotherapy for individuals and couples. In addition, I specialize in three areas of concern - Advanced Addiction Recovery, Sex and Love Addiction, and Relationship Issues. Advanced Recovery is for individuals who have completed inpatient or outpatient treatment for substance abuse or for those in sustained recovery who are facing current issues beyond what can be addressed in their support community. Individual therapy addresses ongoing recovery issues, relapse prevention, relationships, self-esteem and resilience, refining coping strategies, and childhood and family of origin issues. Advanced Recovery Services also include partner and family counseling.

My therapeutic approach is based on Emotionally Focused Therapy and Gottman couples therapy.
My passion is helping individuals and couples create deeper levels of emotional and sexual intimacy. In adults, romantic love can only be truly enjoyed when partners are able to feel safe and secure in turning to each other for their needs. My role as a therapist is to create a safe and supportive space where you can explore unfamiliar and uncomfortable emotional experiences, without feeling blame, shame or judgment.

I use CBT, ACT, EFT, and interpersonal process to help you address both mind and emotions.
Feel like you've earned a gold medal in overthinking? Too hard on yourself? Afraid of disappointing people? I help female overachievers and people-pleasers to feel free to make their own life choices, let go of a sense of guilt, stop negative thinking, feel more in control of their anxiety, and have more satisfying relationships. I empower women to feel in control of their mental health and get where they want to be mentally and emotionally by providing them with the tools, support, and confidence. I also help immigrants to adjust to the new environment and cope with the cultural transition. Sunday availability just opened!

I have an extensive background in supporting individuals and their family system as they navigate issues that fuel addiction and process addictions. I am specifically trained in Eating Disorder and Body Image treatment. I have also completed training to become a trauma specialist, as it is very rare to encounter a person struggling with addiction or an eating disorder without a history of trauma. Additionally, long history of helping family members working on issues of co-dependency and boundaries in an effort to restore healthy, loving relationships. I believe very firmly that families need to heal together!

I recently moved to Delray Beach after spending over a decade in private practice. Prior to that I worked at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia for ten years. I decided to become part of a practice that utilizes a holistic approach to mental health. Using an eclectic approach allows me to tailor treatment and intervention to each client’s needs to support growth and personal development. It is rewarding helping clients go from dependence to greater self-efficacy as they develop the skills needed to navigate life’s challenges. I use evidence-based treatments to facilitate positive change.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
