I primarily utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy and Attachment Theory to strengthen relationships and cultivate emotional resilience.
As we navigate through the journey of life, we all have the same goal of finding wholeness and joy. At times, our path may bring us to dark places, leading us to feel stuck and overwhelmed by the anxiety, trauma, and grief we are facing. It is my honor to walk beside you on this journey towards healing and growth. My approach is grounded in empathy and collaboration, and seeks to uncover your strengths as you move closer towards who you are meant to be. The first step towards therapy can be daunting, but you are not in this alone.

I have gone through extensive training from the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
I am a humanistic therapist, working from an attachment based perspective. As a humanist I believe in combining a non-judgmental and supportive environment with intellectual curiosity to work with you as a whole person, thoughts and feelings.  In our relationship, I believe we are partners working together to determine root causes and patterns to find the best way forward. I am not the expert on you nor do I strive to be. I look forward to talking with you – not at you. I strive to understand you – not judge you. I have a Masters Degree from Columbia university and close to 20 years of experience in the field of mental health.

As a mom of twins, I know how challenging parenting can be. Social media influences, self harm behaviors, impulse control, anger management, bullying and low self worth are just a few of the issues adolescents and their families must navigate. Better relationships within the family unit are possible. Seeing your child smile again is possible. Laughing with your children again is possible. Your adolescent making good choices again is possible. It just requires, change. Start Over, Start Now. Let today be your Day 1.

My goal is to meet you wherever you are as you begin your counseling journey. Perhaps you feel out of control, exhausted by life, anxious, or depressed. Maybe your marriage or relationship has reached a breaking point or you are in the middle of a life transition. I believe that the symptoms you are dealing with make sense in your unique story, and show the incredible resilience that we have to deal with life as we have known it. Sometimes these coping mechanisms no longer serve us. It is okay to realize things are not working! I have been there myself and would love to help you begin to find healing, hope, and a new path forward.

I have a passion for walking alongside people as they navigate the complexities of life. Maybe life seems too much to handle right now, maybe you've lost hope, maybe you've experienced tragedy, or maybe your life just is not the way you pictured it would be. Sometimes, for whatever the reason, life feels too difficult. There is hope and there is help.

My goal is to provide a safe space for my clients to share their stories and learn to love themselves. I believe that people learn how to act, react, and interact from their families and environment. Sometimes those patterns get in the way of the life they want. In therapy, I guide the client towards healing through providing a balance of nurturance and challenging so my clients can reach their goals.

Life is hard. Sometimes we find ourselves trying to find happiness based on how other people define what happy should be. This can cause anxiety, depression, feelings of being lost or like you're not enough. Traumatic events, personal experiences, and life in general guide how we see the world and everyone's view is unique. How do you define happy? Lower anxiety? Less depression? Improved relationships? Maybe you haven't figured that out yet. That's where I can help.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
